Slding cargo tray suspended

On our old 2007 Travelaire TT, we had a tray in the cargo storage area that was suspended from above, not attached and in the road on the floor. The tray was made of plastic and simply slid out, with dimension of about 24" wide by 5' long. It held my wrenches, fittings, flags, etc, nothing too heavy.
I want to add one to our new trailer but can't find any RV trays that are built to be suspended from the RV cargo area roof area. I've searched and searched...in this case Google wasn't any help.
Anyone seen a distributor for one of these elusive beasts?
Thanks in advance
Glen
  • Drew and Bill, thanks for the recommendations. That is exactly what I am going to do. I was hoping there was something already prefab, but looks like that is no longer the case. Construction will start on the first warm(er) day.
Appreciate everyone's thoughts and help on this.:)
  • Take any sliding drawer setup and screw the sides to something like a 2x4 that's a couple of inches longer. You would then be able to screw a couple of vertical 1x4 or 2x4's to each end and then screw those to the ceiling with a couple of wooden blocks. The drawer could be as tall or short as you like depending upon the length of the vertical members.
  • If what you want is a platform sliding on rails of some sort, that sure sounds like it wouldn't be too tricky to fabricate. A couple of aluminum angles and a piece of 1/4" plywood, for example, might serve the purpose very nicely.

I have a sliding shelf (not attached to the ceiling of the compartment, but riding on rails attached to the sides) in my Coachmen RV. It's basically just this, covered in carpet, and with a very simple pin mechanism to lock it in place--just a pin with a loop to pull it that engages a hole in the shelf and a matching hole in the angle. Very simple and practical.
  • Newman, thanks for the response and direction to a similar unit. I didn't find it on ebay but did on Amazon. Holy moly, that is danged expensive! Not quite what I had in mind with it shown as being suspended from the frame underneath a unit, but we're getting closer. To be more specific on what Travelaires' (Glendale??) had, it was a very simple one-piece plastic tray that slide in-out on a metal runner, no top cover, no locking mechanism. Very simple, mounted from the roof of the cargo storage area.
I'll keep looking but also keep this one in mind.
    thanks
    Glen
