Solar Gear and Soon to be Installation

Well after numerous iterations, ridiculous amounts of research...and more funds being released by the boss, I've finally pulled the trigger.

System run Down:
-250w 24v Conergy 250P panel flat mounted on roof (future plan for 2 more with room to spare)
-8awg mc4 wires about 5' to roof top custom combiner box
-6awg about 8' from combiner box down fridge vent to 24v rotary battery switch
-battery switch to 50amp 24v resettable breaker
-Morningstar tristar 45amp mppt controller with remote monitor panel
-6awg 15' to a 12v battery switch then to a 50a resetable breaker to to batteries as noted below.
-only 2 group 27 batts for now, but room for 4 in the future

Install willmtake place around thr 1st week of June once I get the trailer back after some warranty work.
  • Hi,

If you plan on adding more panels later jump to the 60 amp controller.
  • Why a combiner box? Just adds more failure points. Just use MC4 cable direct to controller.
Add the other two panels in series as time and money permit.

I think your #8 to the controller is more than needed. #10 s/b fine. And I would step up the 15' battery connection to #4. I would use the battery voltage sense connection with that distance.
  • Your controller is cutting it close for 3 panels. You don't need a breaker between PV and controller. Why all the switches?
