12K Pullrite Superslide hitch. Is it enough?

I have a 12K Pullrite and a 2006 Ford F350 SWR Diesel truck. Im looking at a 31' Forrest River 5er. Unloaded weight is 7400 lbs. Im thinking by the time we load it up with water and food and stuff and a small generator i will be pushing the 12k limit of the hitch. So my question is do they build some extra into the hitch so you can safley pull at the weight limit or should i upgrade the hitch to say 16k? Thanks, Lee

My FW is similar in weight as yours and I went with the 15K
  • First off forget about dry weight, it means nothing. Second look at the sticker on the drivers side of the trailer and see what the GVWR weight is and that will tell you the hitch size you need. I would have my hitch be at least 2K to 3K more than my trailer and make sure the hitch can handle the pin weight. I would go with a min of 15-16K. JMHO though.
