I am in the process of switching over to 2) 6V batteries vs 1 12V battery in my 5er. Picked up some interstate 6V batteries today but my new battery box wont be in for a few days.My question is "HOW IN THE HELL DO YOU GUYS LIFT THESE HEAVY BASTARDS INTO THE CASE???!!!??!!??!!"I know as I am getting older i'm not as 'virile' as I used to be but I am seriously wondering how I am going to lift these up into the front compartment while ducking and then set them in the box while reaching into the front compartment without hurting something!!!!!!!It's not like there is enough room for a lot of extra help either.Just asking.Steve

my Trojan T105's have a carrying handle that hooks into lugs on the battery for lifting. I do agree, its one of my least favorite chores removing/installing them each season. Its pure brute force to get them both into the box plain and simple.Daryll

My GC2s have a lug on each side. I used a flat nylon web strap to lift them up and in. Bit of a grunt to don't be shy to ask the neighbor kid to help vs getting hurt.

They are about 67 pounds. What I did was put the battery into the box, and then lift the battery and box into the compartment, and set it on top of the strap that was already screwed down to the bottom of my storage compartment, and ready to accept the battery box. The box is only about 1-2 pounds, so does not significantly add to the battery weight. And you do not need to position the battery over the box inside the compartment, then lower it safely into the box. In other words, hire a teenagers who is willing to work for a few bucks. Find a strong one, like a football player or something!Good luck,Fred.

Just put 2 in mine. Luckily in this case Im short and close to the ground, :) ,(there is an advantage sometimes) what makes it even more difficult is that they are also higher than the standard 12 volt.

Its like How do you get 4 Elephants into a Volkswagen beetle? — 2 in the front and two in the back...The good side is the heaver the battery the more AHs it produces... Two of those 6VC Golf Cart Batteries wired in series to produce 12VC will give you between 200 an 220 AH's of capacity. That relates to your batteries producing 12VC @ 25 AMPS for around 7 hours time. I would not however ever run them below their 50% charge state so in my case I would get around 3-4 hours of drawing 25AMPS of DC Current. 25AMPS is alot of juice by the way... Roy Ken

I just leave them in, use the battery disconnect and connect a Battery Minder for the winter. Top off the water in the spring and go!

Straps will just make it easier to get a grip on the battery. It still weighs a lot. Straps mostly help when dropping the battery down in the box.

I would just lift them in there, but how you go about it can make it easier. If this is a front compartment, sit yourself down on a stool, with the battery at your feet. Lift the battery up to your lap. Then shift your grasp and lift it over the lip of the compartment, and rest it on the edge of the battery box. Then shift again and drop it into the box. You should find that easier than dead lifting it all the way, up, over, and down.

Did you notice, as I have, that 67lbs is a lot more than it used to be?

I use the flat nylon web strap that comes with the battery box. Loop it through the lugs on either side of the battery and use that to lift the battery and drop it into the battery box. Then lift the box by the handles and put it in place (this is the hard part).

I had to install new batteries 2 years ago. The old ones were about 5 years old and had been filled many times with 'slop' running around the top. So I lifted the battery out and kind of used my thigh to catch it before lowering it to the ground. About 2-3 hours later I started to notice white spots and then holes in the pants! I learned a lesson there!;)

After I wrestled mine in they are not coming out till they die permanently. 6 volt remote watering system and a good pd 4 stage charger plus power will keep them up through winter and summer.

Well, I bought a rope hoist from HF. I like the idea and it was $11. I'm going to install an eye bolt to hook it to. Looks like if I go through the top of the compartment it will be right under the bed, hopefully not right under the slide motor....lol. The hoist was a great idea!!! I also bought a battery strap made by/for Trojans. My new NOCO battery box came in so hopefully I can get them installed this weekend. Thanks for the input.

This was something I considered last year when upgrading my system, but I added solar panels also.

I went with 2 Group 31 AGM batteries and left them in the trailer all year. The snow would melt enough off of the solar panels to allow enough charging through the winter and the well below zero temps we had did not cause any issues since they were AGM's.

Real simple, take the RV with new batteries in your truck bed to the Interstate dealer and ask them to install.

My 8d's were 165lbs each. Made a wood ramp from tailgate of truck to lip of batt compartment. Slide um right in.

I made a short lifting handle that hooks to the battery lugs. Then I installed an eye-bolt above the battery box and purchased a cheap rope hoist from HF. I can lift the batteries with one hand using the hoist and guide them into place with the other. No more grunting and groaning or pinched fingers.
