accessing roof

So on the holiday we just got back from the vent over rear kitchen fell apart, it was all in pieces, so I guess even with the cover over it the sun still gets to them, it is a 2004 model, anyway have bought what should be the correct elixer cover and want to know how smart would it be to extend slide out then put a board over it and step from a ladder onto it then onto the roof?
I do have a 8 foot step ladder, the thing must be all of 12 feet tall, so it appears it would be a safe way to get up on top, I do not like heights and this would appear to be one way to get on top, just curious what you all think?

    Good to hear (read) it turned out well.

    As others have said, a different ladder choice might be in order for your second project.

    Maybe a short extension ladder?

    BTW - ladders attached to the rear of 5ths, MH's, and TT's are a
    design for disaster - but make a nice place to tie off the top of an extension ladder with a much better (and safer) climbing angle..;)

    Worked out well, put a board on slide out and got on top, but now I see a dome cover will have to be done now, but at least the vent cover is done now.

    If you are not comfortable working up on a roof, by all means, do not attempt it. Much cheaper to have somene do it for you than to fall and the medical bills involved there. I understand, I cannot work up on a roof or tall ladder either.

    Someone here suggested gluing a carpet s**** to your plywood to avoid scratching the roof.

    Good point about it being a rubber roof, which it is, and we use a cover so would be nice to see if it has rubbed during our windy days.

    Oh and yes the roof comes over the side a bit.

    It is a 2004 Wilderness lite, no ladder on it, and it is quite tall, so figured the board should make it safe to step up, but yes, not sure if the roof is rated for standing or kneeling on.

    I must caution you about putting any thing on the roof like a piece of ply wood, if you have a rubber roof make darn sure there are no slinters sticking down ward or you will then have to patch your roof. putting a ladder up against the sides of the TT will also make holes in your roof if the rubber roof comes over the sides.

    You probably will be fine on the roof, if you want to use the slideouts as a way up, keep the ladder close the the body of the trailer, lightly step up with one foot on the inner edge, then up onto the main roof...
