Birds and Trailer Hitch

Right now it's the time of year that birds build nest and lay eggs. Every year I have to remove the bird nest from under the FW hitch and tongue. Does anyone have any idea's to keep this from happening or putting something under there to keep them from building nest?

I use hardware cloth in THIS SIZE .
I form it to cover the opening with a 1" flange all around. Then drill a #10 hole for a 10-32 threaded screw in the screens flange as needed. Install the screw in the hole and run a nut on tight. This leaves a treaded stud sticking out. I then add a small washer and wing nut to hold the cloth in place.

The cloth has small squares so birds/paper wasps/mud daubers can't get in but is easily removable.

I stuff a large towel in mine. Simple fix.

I used bounce sheets and it seems to keep them away.

WE used wadded-up newspaper in the pin box.
BTW - once they are in there it is against federal law to disturb them! You must wait until they eggs hatch and all leave! Just so you know - big brother may be watching!!

2 laundry bags(netted kind) from the dollar store.Open the bottom up on one, slip it over the king pin and then slip the other one on. Hold them there with bungees and the cords that they come with.

We put some mothballs in there and the birds didn't come back. I also use them in the storage shed to keep mice out.

We carry alot of plastic grocery bags from when we took our late Bernese Mountain Dog camping with us (we needed alot of them!). A grocery bag filled with a bunch of other bags fits in the pinbox perfectly and keeps the birds out.

I put some bubble wrap in the entrance when I get to where I am going. I remove it when I leave. Works great and cheap.

I formed a piece of expanded metal to put over opening and attached with a screw.

Screen around/over the openings (anything you can get your finger into). Duct tape will hold it in place.
