That's where I connect mine too - Traveler_IIExplorerWe have ours hooked on to the side wall of the truck, it's high enough to keep it from getting into the hitch, but not mounted on the hitch.

Using a carabiner, I do the same thing. I also encased the cable in a length of split loom to prevent it from getting caught up under a rail, etc. - shepstoneExplorer
