DRW vs. SRW for towing fivers
Has anyone towed fivers with both DRW and SRW pickups? I currently have a F350 diesel DRW, and I'm looking to get a new F350 but I'm debating on the rear wheel config. Ease of parking and maneuvering over stability.

- We have had both (Dodges). Towing 13,000 ponds+. Prefer the stability. Besides, the DRW gives us exercise walking from the far reaches of parking lots.
- I don't think I recall anyone saying that they wish they had the SRW, but lots do say that they wish they had the dullie.:)

No personal experience though. - YES duallies are a larger platform and can be more stable.
But SRW has it's place in the towing world up to a point.
For me that is 14,000# (trailer GVWR) above that dually territory - I have had both and found that the srw was much more stable and predictable on ice and snow.The dually tended to cut loose sooner and doing side slides with it is no fun,heavy rain also tended to hydroplane the rear.Dry roads the dually can't be beat,we of course have all kinds of nasty roads before we hit the warmth and dry roads going south.

Denny - Had both Ford SRW > RAM DRW.
I much prefer the DRW config. - I would suspect that it depends on how long a 5th wheel you are pulling and how heavy it is. We pull a 38' 5th wheel with a SRW configuration. 95% of the time the truck is not pulling anything. Therefore the smaller footprint and ease of parking was more important than the increase in stability a DRW truck may provide. We have been in some nasty road conditions and high wind conditions and have never felt like the truck or load combination was unstable. YMMV.
- I've had both. If I was just towing my 5er (32', 12,000 pounds) I would go back to a SRW. But I often tow tandem, and the dually is much more comfortable there.
I will say that I really dislike using my DRW as a DD. Ended up buying another car so the DRW is solely for recreation. - My fiver is 37' and 12k lbs. I have never towed with a dually but my 1 ton srw tows my fiver just fine. No stability issues whatsoever.
It is also my daily driver and tow only about 12 short trips per year. Denny & Jami wrote:
