electric over hydraulic brakes

Good morning friends, Is there anyone out there running a 2006 Ford with the IBC and a trailer with electric over hydraulic brakes and if so have you experiencd any problems with compatability? I'm researhing this because I have an issue with the brakes on my trailer. I'm having to replace the calipers on the disc brakes because the boots surround the pistons deteriated/rotted in less than two years. Something is heating them up or they are just plain deffective, I don't know. I was assured when I purchased the trailer that they were compatable and have since foud a chart indicating such. I just trying to find someone with like setup my sig is wrong, I now have a 2012 38rssb3 Mobile Suite that may of had a similiar issue!
Thanks and have a great day,
BobQ
  • the pump only has 3 pistons so alot of heat is generated you need to get a brakrite pump it has 5 pistons 40% cooler.

Our 2006 and Kodiak/Carlisle setup worked fine with the Carlisle adapter (HBA-CAM) for Ford integrated controllers.

Sticking calipers? Set too aggressive? It might be the trailer brakes are taking too much of the braking percentage.

Hi, did you have a Ford, if so why did you have the HBA-CAM installed. All the info I have says that the 2006 ford were compatible with Hydraulic brake actuators. Did you have electric over hydraulic brakes or shoe?

    Bob,
The HBA-CAM module came standard on the 5th wheel along with the HBA16 actuator so it could adapt to any truck. Yes we have the electric over hydraulic disk.

As I understand - because the 2006 Ford Integrated Controller did not have the selection for electric vs electric over hydraulic like the newer ones have, the HBA-CAM is required to prevent the Ford "trailer disconnect" alarm or "trailer fault" alarm from actuating because it cannot find end resistance from the magnets when using the Carlisle disk brake actuator. We now run a 2014 Ford, and didn't have to change anything on the trailer. Our 2014 still runs through the HBA-CAM, even though it may not need it.

  • Anyone with Kodiak Disk Brakes be sure to lubricate the caliper slide/mounting bolts with silicone grease. All of mine came from the factory with little or no grease and the calipers were not sliding and caused one pad on each caliper to do all the braking. I even had one pad missing and the caliper was digging into the rotor! Very close to having the piston loose it's seal and loose the brake fluid.

  • I have a 2008 Ford F450 with a 2008 MS. I had to install the Carlyle brake cam also. I think Ford solved this problem with their 2011 or 2012 and later trucks.
  • I have a 2008 F450 pulling a 2013 Mobile Suites 38RSSB3 with the disc brakes, I have a Carlyle brake cam installed by DRV which makes the Ford controller compatible with the disc brakes. They work great with no issues.
  • Can't help you on the 2006 Ford truck, but I have a 2011 F-350 pulling a 2012 Hitchhiker with elctric over hydraulic disc brakes and I have had no problems. The 2011 F-350 can be programed for Electric or Electric over Hydraulic, and I must confess I don't have a clue what difference it would make to the truck, but it works fine and that's all that counts.
  • I had an 06 F350 with the IBC and a Dexter Electric Hydraulic brake system on our Newmar and never had an issue with them.
