Goodyear G614 tires wheel question

I have a Montana 3400RL 2010 and am changing to Goodyear G614 tires. I have Treadit TO4 8 aluminum wheel rims which are rated for the 110 psi and the 3750 pounds but they are 16x6 size rims and the Goodyear site says the G615 235/85/16G uses a 6 1/2 rim. Have any of you changed to G614's with Treadit rims or what size rims are you using and manufacturer plus experiences. I am wondering if the 6 vs 6 1/2 rim width is significant.

I just had G614s installed on my coach. Discount Tire went the extra mile in researching that the tires would be compatible with the wheels and that the added tire pressure was also in line with the rating of the wheels. They look good on the coach and even though a bit larger than the originals have plenty of clearance. Heading out on Monday for a 3 week 2500 mile trip, we'll see how they roll.

Don't just blindly run the tires at 110#. Weigh your RV compare the weights to set your tire pressure with the weight/inflation guide for your tire. Add 5psi tho the heaviest tire, this is per GY Tech Support when going up in tire rating.

With 110# you will have a rougher ride, wear the centers of the tires and have less stopping power.

I did this mod with our 02 Avion Platinum. Ran the G's at 85psi at 5 years of use the tires were the exact tread depth. The reason for 85psi is because the E tires were maxed out so it makes sense that the G's would need 85psi.

Goodyear G614's are the tire of choice for Montanas and have been offered as an option for several years. Do it and don't look back. Check the Montana Owners Club forum at www.montanaowners.com for everything you need to know about Montanas.

I ran G614s on the Montana factory wheels back in 2007 - no issues. I currently have factory installed G614 on T09 8 spoke wheels, and even these are 6".

I ran the GY G's for 5 years on our Avion Platinum 32.5. Factory tires were GY LT E's on 6 lug steel wheels.

I did the "ultimate sin" according to some on here with the 80psi rims and 110psi tires. I ran 85psi for 5 years with perfect even tread wear. I used the tire weight/inflation chart and added 5psi, all per GY Tech Support.

Too much air = center wear, poor braking and harsh ride.

But hey the tires says "MAX PSI 110 COLD" so I will blindly run 110. NOT

Should not be a problem. I have them on mine as well. Most Rvers have them on 6" rims and just don't know it.

I did it with no problems. That was several years ago.

I think when the tire manufacturer - Goodyear for the G614 RST - says the minimum acceptable rim width is 6 & 1/2" that's just what they mean to say. Is it debatable? I don't know, call and ask them. If they snicker just hang-up.

On my LT 235/85 R16 G614 it says on the sidewall...

"MOUNT ONLY ON 16 INCH RIM APPROVED FOR RADIAL TIRES
DO NOT MOUNT ON 16 1/5 INCH RIM"

It looks like you are "good to go". If your rims are approved for radial tires.

I hope it is not an issue as I just ordered the GY for our Alpenlite which has 6 inch steel rims. The current tires are Freestar and stamped DO NOT MOUNT ON 6.5 RWHEELS. Our previous rig (Big Country) had the GY 614's with 6" rims. But...I do not have a definitive answer to your question! 😞

Your alpenlite came with good Year G-159 tires and then the 159's became the G-614 tire so you should be good to go if the wheels are original. You might crawl under the trailer and inspect the welds that hold the outter to the inner parts. Some were welded on 4 areas and some were welded around the circle. The four weld wheels were recalled many years ago. worth a look.
