Installed a TPMS and very happy.

I just installed a TST TPMS and I am very happy with how it works and the information it gives. Very nice knowing what the tires pressures and temperatures are while driving down the freeway.

I also found it strange that my tires ran a lot cooler than I thought they would. Around 10* over ambient was average for 95* weather and around 55-60 mph. I dont know if thats normal running temps for trailer tires, but just thought that they would run hotter than that.

Anyways, well worth the money.

I installed the 507 model. And regarding the temp readings, I called TST and asked them specifically about the accuracy of the temp reading and they stated that its a very accurate reading of the internal temperature. Within a couple degree's. That said, maybe the reason for the higher temperature the laser gun reads is because its picking up the tires surface temperature, which would make sense since its black and the direct sun on the tire would cause a laser temperature gun to read a higher temp than a tire sitting in the shade.

Exactly, internal air temps are less than external, but the TST system temp alert is pre-set at 157 degrees giving plenty of safety cushion before a tire will fail from heat. Enjoy the peace of mind knowing your now monitoring the tires 100% of the time, not just when you got around to checking them in the past.

  • I also installed a TST 507RV system on mine this year. Really like being able to check the pressures as I am driving.
As far as the temps, I guess there has to be some slight air circulation thru the stem into the sensor to monitor the temps. And that would seem to make for some cooling of the air. So not sure the temp reading is really too close to the actual tire temp. I used to use an infrared temp gun and the temps showed quite a bit higher. But as stated, consistency of readings is probably the most important thing. Mine on the shady side read just about the same as the ambient air temp, even at 65-70 mph. The ones on the sunny side read 8-10 degrees higher. With the temp gun they would run maybe 10-15 degrees higher than those on both sides.
  • Your on the right track. When I check the tire temperature with the gun it reads higher that the TPMS. Probably because the sensor is on the stem. But the true temp isn't as important as consistency between them.
  • I use pressure pros - have had them on since 08. Great peace of mind when traveling.
