Interior lights blink when on shore power

Hard to say what causes what. The older converters that constantly put out 13.6VDC will boil out the battery fluids over time which causes them to short out their individual cells which puts a hugh load on the converters...

Next thing you are replacing batteries and converters...

I have been down that road as well haha...

Have had good luck with the PD9200 series converter/charger. I get to watch the converter/charger do its thing when going thru its smart mode charge cycles with my BATTERY MONITOR PANEL meters reading both DC VOLTS and DC CURRENT.

We do alot of camping off the power grid and like to have my batteries at their best performance. The PD series converters really do a great job keeping the batteries automatically re-charged using smart mode charging and you can force any of the smart mode charge modes with the press of a button... Best of all worlds

I would go with the Progressive Dynamics unit, at the link provided above.

They are a state of the art unit and as mentioned, will maintain your batteries, not boil the dry or undercharge them.

They cost more than the Chinese junk, but you get what you pay for. A pair of ruined batteries will set you back a lot more than the cost of a good converter.

Upon further research, it looks like i may need the 8955MBA Main Board Assembly. This is the converter only. This sounds easier to do and less money. On edit, I think i just need to call Randy.

Thank you Old-Biscuit. I will call them tomorrow. I had found a video where someone changed out the converter on his WFCO to a progreeive dynamics PD 4655 3 stage converter. I hope i can do this with the atwood 5530. BillE

Convertor, I agree, I had the exact same thing happing 2 years ago, changed out convertor and wala, fixed!!!

Do yourself a favor and contact Best Converters (Randy) and get with him on a replacement of that single stage dumb converter.
Replace with a 3 stage converter that will maintain your battery and not kill it.

The Atwood APS 5530s for sale are old stock........no longer made.

It is a atwood APS 5530. They are available for less than $100.00. Does this sound right? How difficult is it to install a new one? Thanks BillE

Classic sign of a failing converter.

It did it on the old battery cause converter wasn't providing enough charge to battery so battery voltage was low.

New battery is currently charged but will not last long due to failing converter.

Converter DC output should be 13.2V DC minimum when connected to AC power
It should go as high as 14V PLUS when charging battery.

I have to agree with BOB, on the converter going south.

I had the same problem with my RV and after checking all the other things mentioned I decided to change out the old cheap Chinese made WFCO that most come with to a smart charger/converter, solved all my problems.

It may not be the answer but I would put a voltmeter on the battery terminals to try to detect a voltage fluctuation. The Converter charges the battery which powers the lights. Possibly the battery is about to head south so its output is not consistent but fluctuates with the Converter output.
