JT's Elephant Foot Jack Pads

Has anyone used the JT's Elephant Foot Jack Pads for the landing gear of their 5er?

I am in need of a new set of pads for my landing gear. I unhitched on asphalt last year, and it was hot enough that the front of the trailer sank in and bent my OEM pads, so I need to replace what I have. I found a couple places on line that look like they sell them for around $79, which isn't too bad. Any thoughts on the?

Why the need for pads at all?

Maybe my 25' 5th wheel is light but I NEVER have used anything under my landing gear pads (unless it's to help level)

Even my scissor jacks in the rear.

as noted by others in this thread, OEM landing gear footpads are easily bent when they are on anything but a solid/even surface .... footpads 5ers can sink and bend when on dirt/sand, gravel, asphalt, etc .... the same is true to a lesser degree with stabilizers .... there may well be aftermarket footpads out there that are so strong they won't bend when subjected to sufficient pressure but I've never found them .... for that reason we use some sort of additional pad under the landing gear pads

Bought a set of these (or very similar) at Camping World. I haven't had any issues with them deforming and they seem to work well. The thing I did not care for was the lack or deburring as most of the edges are sharp. Normally this probably wouldn't be an issue but I have an adjustable landing gear foot and spin the foot pad to raise and lower it. A couple times I cut myself while doing so. Ended up taking a file to it.

We've had the exact same problem on previous fivers as OP. some trailers are more nose heavy.

I'm thinking that some folks did not quite understand your original post and did not click on the link you provided.

I bent my pads also and replaced them with a larger pad and it has turned out to be a good repair. If I do park in a area where it looks like it might be soft I do put down a plastic pad. This is the ones I use. Jack Pad I do find that I don't need them often.

when you park on dirt the front and back of the pads bend up so using a flat surface under the landing gear prevents this problem.

I have the elephant foot pads and shoes. I think I got them at Tweety's. They work well. I got the shoes as I thought the plastic on asphalt might slide easily. Have not had any issues with either.

I bent the OEM also. My 5er is 38'

I agree with the 2x8 treated boards. I cut mine about 24" long. Store flat and easy and it's cheap.

I use a couple of 2X8X10" boards if needed. Real easy and they last a long time.

Less wear and dirt on the LG. I use 1-1/2" plywood pads about 10" square

I use pieces of Trex decking. Won't rot and held up fine for 2 5th wheels so far (2006-2013). I doesn't have to be the Trex brand either. Any composite decking will do.
