Locked myself out... again....

I don't know yet how these locks work completely. I guess if you lock the top lock from the outside, you can still open the door from the inside, but then the door will still be locked from the outside if you close it.
Last time I did this, luckily the back door was unlocked and I was able to get in.
This time it wasn't so I wandered around the park and found some guy who ended up being able to unlock it with his key.

What the heck???

My head was jumbled enough bc I was just worried about getting the dogs back inside so they wouldn't overheat, but he then asked how we liked our rig and asked to see inside. Told him ok not thinking much about it. But now I'm like... ok his key works with our locks and he has now seen all our stuff and likes our dogs....
thinking about calling a locksmith to rekey ASAP.

But how come his key worked with our door?? Our key for our back door doesn't even work for the front door and vice versa....

    Recently I locked myself out of my TT. My GS who is a cop, 6ft 2 in, crawled in the stoage space and crawled under the bed which had a lot of stuff under there. Pushed up the end of the bed which is heavy as it has a real thick mattress on it. This was after 2 AM. I had the key in my upper jacket pocket all the time. LOL

    It's because of this, that I always keep the second set of keys in the console of my tow vehicle. A friend of mine did the same thing, he had a set, his wife had a set. Both sets ended up in their belongings inside the trailer. We've avoided this scenario as I never lock the door with the key's if someone is still inside.

    I've contemplated installing the keypad type lock, but wasnt sure if the master keys the dealer has would still be able to open the lock or not.

    Yes - I am looking at the keypad as well. We will probably just replace both doors locks and make a copy for under the rig. I just tested it out again tho - the key for our back door won't open our front.. just weird to me he was able to use his. Got a locksmith coming tomorrow though!

    If people iam camping around want in have at it as long as they leave me one beer. And as for another guys keys fitting they do fit other locks my buddy can open mine with his keys.i did put on the rv keyless

    I never use the top door latch lock, only use the bottom dead bolt lock. With the dead bolt on you don't get in or out. I've been told that Dealers have a Master Key that will work with the door latch, but not for the dead bolt. So normally told when leaving for service that the door can be locked, but don't lock the dead bolt. Don't know if that's still true or not.

    My '04 Komfort is this way. Handle lock is common and the dealer had a master key. Deadbolt was well, not unique, but not set up to use a master key. I had to drive to the dealer one time when I forgot to unlock the bolt and they needed to get inside. I have a set of keys that, if they're not in my pocket are usually stuck in one of the storage locker locks were I forgot them. :B The other set's in the truck. Never got around to getting a 3rd set, though.

    thanks!! looking at the site now - i think i will have the locksmith just re-key if he can, and then order a variation of what that site has to install myself. pretty cool site!

    The top lock has a master key. At the dealership I used to work at, they would only lock the top lock on the units at night. We each had a set of master keys. The bottom lock is the deadbolt. Maybe newer locks are different but I find this true even with mine. If you lock only one, lock the bottom. I also keep a spare key in one of the magnetic holders, but it is hidden where I can reach it in the truck. Lots of people use water heaters...LOL or LP storage area. Not good idea.

    Nice of the man to help you out, but I think I would also do something different.. pretty soon.
