Onan Generator Question

Guys, new to having a 5th wheel with a generator on it. I have read on here where some guys will run their generator while towing when its hot/cold to keep temp in trailer regulated. Anyways, my generator only has 40hrs on it and runs like a champ when sitting still, but when I have tried to use it while rolling down the road, it always shuts off. Any suggestions on this?
  • I don't know where the hose for the gasoline is, but maybe your trailer isn't level enough going down the road or you need to have a more full tank. One other thought is check the line connections that could be moving going down the road and letting air in.
  • Might want to check the air filter to make sure it is clean. They can pull in a lot of dust and maybe moving it is being starved for air. If air filter is clean might try leaving the door open so that it can get more air just for a short trial
  • I will double check that, but at last check it was full. Im pulling a 2013 Raptor 40ft 5th wheel. Gas tank is all the way at the rear of the unit. When the Gen shuts off while driving, and I go to restart it, it seems to take a bit to start, like it is having to re-prime the fuel line.
  • Somewhere I saw that the new ones were more sensitive to oil level. I think it was in a discussion about trailer leveling. Mine works fine.
  • Check oil level, could be shutting down due to it sensing low level, some have that option some do not. JMHO
  • I would wonder about some type of weird air currents causing the gen to starve for air.
