problem with electrical system

Got the new power converter. Insalled in the toyhauler and everythings good. Now if I could only find some new door jam seals to replace my old ones. Anyone have any good directions on where to find dooor gaskets.

Just got a call from the RV store. The converter was bad. Bad thing is they want to charge me $60 for tessting it even if I by the new from them.

Sounds like a Bad converter... Many electronic devices don't like, and can't tolerate being connected reverse polarity.

Try disconnecting the converter completely and temporarily connect a 12v battery charger in its place. If that solves your problem, its diffidently a bad converter.

I just removed it from the RV. I guess my best bet is to go to the RV store and have them test it for me.

That the RV 12 volt system was like a car and the black wire was neg and the yellow wire must have been pos. but I knew something was wrong when my bathroom and microwave fans were not blowing through the vents they were trying to pull. Sounds as if the fans were connected backward, not the battery...

Unless the charger is built into the converter I don't have one that I know of. When we bought this RV it was a year old. The dealer had taken it in on trade and didn't even have any manuals for it except the radio, fridge, and furnace.

I'm trying to remember where the 30 amp fuses are located in the circuit. It seems to me they are on the output side and blow if the battery power is reversed, but this doesn't make sense to me. I'll look up your charger schematic in a minute. As a quick check of the location of the problem, lift the two black wires at the charger and try flipping the disconnect. If it does not blow the fuses it is downstream from the charger, if they still blow it is your charger/converter, which is my guess at this point.

I wish someone(I know, "I used to wonder why someone didn't do something and then I realized I was "someone") would put together an in general diagnostic manual with in general schematics and not make and model specific ones. I kinda have one in my favorites but is a pain to find and use. I'v got to work on that.

When I turn the disconnect from off to on the fuses on the converter blow. If the rv isn't hooked up to shore power, its not a problem. Only 12 volts I have are the interior lights. fan over the stove. fan over the bathroom, and whatever the fridge needs to get up and running

so when you flip the disconnect (which removes the battery from the mix and places the entire 12 volt load on the converter) it pops the 2 30amp 12 volt fuses in the converter. (is that correct?)

do you have a ton of 12 volt appliances on when you try this or everything off? If the battery isn't connected at all to the system does it still pop the fuses? Or is the failure tied to the disconnect switch?

It's possible that even though the protective fuses for the converter blew, the converter was still damaged because of the repeated attempts.
