Propane , batteries , gen & tongue weight

What is the estimated weight of batteries, full propane , and a generator? I assume that if you load all your cargo on or behind the axles these should be the biggest items that will affect tongue weight ( excluding the tanks )?
  • I can give this info. The Voltage toyhauler I test towed had no battery ( yes I know)and no genset. It did have 2 30 lb tanks full off propane. The 2014 I bought mint did have an onan genny, 2 6 volt batteries and the pin was 330 more as I weighed both.
I like knowing the total going down the road as with a SRW 350 I know it can add fast and did a lot of homework.

How many batteries (most TH's have 2)?

How many, what size propane bottles (most TH's have 2)?

Tongue mounted portable generator or OEM, cab-mounted generator?

    Typically,

24/27 series batteries weigh approx. 45-55 lbs. each.

20 lb. propane bottles (full) approx. 40 lbs. each.
30 lb. propane bottles (full) approx. 55 lbs. each.

    3500-4000 watt, portable, open-frame generators 100-140 lbs.
3000 watt, portable, inverter generators 80-150 lbs.
2000 watt, portable, inverter generators 45-60 lbs.
OEM Onan generators can weigh 200-300 lbs.

OK - thanks how many batteries are usually involved in a bumper pull model?

That depends. Are you going to CG with electricity and hooking up then one, if boondocking two minimum.

  • Can only help with the propane tank:
RV propane tanks are typically 30 lbs. Meaning at 80% of
capacity you should have 30 lbs. of propane.

If your's is the normal 30 lb. tank check the "tare weight"
on the tank's collar; add 30 lbs. to it, and you have an
accurate total weight, with that tank at the max of 80% full.
  • Batteries can be any where from 40-150lbs depending on size and model.
    Full propane for 20lbs = 37lbs, a 30lbs about 54 lbs
Generator depends on size from 36 lbs onward.
