Purchasing our first 5er this week. Have a 2010 Ram 4x4 crew cab CTD SRW SB and am getting a 2014 Jayco Eagle HT 27.5bhs.
Am considering the two hitches listed in the title? Which would be the best choice?

I don't know. That is why I asked. How do they slide backwards "uphill" when the truck and trailer are travelling downhill and going to make a sharp U turn?

IT rides on a cam which moves the hitch back as it rotates. Makes no difference whether going uphill, downhill, or level. Go to their website and watch the videos...

If you go here....

and look at the owner's manual, a lot of questions can be answered about the PullRite slider.

Where do you see the auto slide for less money?

The lowest I've been quoted for the 16k autoslide with superrails and plate is $2500 installed. The BW companion slider and turnover base installed I can get for $1875.

I have already done your homework for you, get the picture frame from RedTrailers.com $326.54, and either a 15K or if that is not enough weight rating go the 18K both are the superglide ISR series in other words they fit conventional rails or the picture frame that you are already setup for. The price at Tweety's is $837.80 for the 15K ,and $1111.11 for the 18K both are free shipping. you are going to be total either $1437.65 for the 18K setup or $1164.34 for the 15K there will be no installation fee there is nothing really to install, you can do it all

You DO NOT need the super rail kit with your truck, just the picture frame ,and ISR series Superglide. I did forget to mention the capture plate for around $100 depending on what hitch is on your fifth wheel

How is there NO installation (cutting bed etc)? My 2010 Ram does not have a 5er prep package (don't even believe it was offered). The box is stock with no GN or 5er hitch/prep etc. Had a TT prior to this.

I apologize, I saw the 2014, and thought it was the truck, it was your fifth wheel. Not sure what you have to do ,but I will bet NCHauler will know I believe he had that year of Ram, but I do know you can go a lot cheaper than that quote. I was referring to the new 2014 Ram

I'm a DIY guy. Going by Tweety's pricing

SG 16K - ~$1500 total (includes super rail kit and capture plate)
B&W - ~$1,750 total ($1,350 slider + $400 turnover ball)

$2500 installed for the SG sounds a bit steep.

Reason I'm considering both is the reputation of B&W along with the $700 more the dealer is quoting for the Superglide. Isn't the slider only necessary in backing up into tight spaces? Seems like I can handle the slight hassle of getting out to do a lever foe the cost difference.

Why would you consider the two hitches, long bed I would go with B&W , you having a short bed I would go with the automatic slider, It is a no brainer . Having just purchased a new Ram short bed,I am very skeptical about the clearance, coming from a short bed ford that has a six inch longer bed then what you and I have. I have the manual reese slider, and most likely will sell it, and get the Superglide, I will check clearance first when I get things setup. If I was starting from scratch there would be no question,I would go with Superglide, No brainer .

The Ford has a 7' box? Didst I've heard of that. My Ram has the 6.5' box.

My 99 ford superduty shortbed measures from inside the bed to the end with the tailgate open right at 6'-10" this new ram measuring the same way is 6'-4" 6 inches different the way I am measuring . Hopefully with axle placement or whatever I will come out with about the same clearance to the back of the cab from the pin.

Most importantly - - owned one of each?

I have the PR SG also - but have *NO* reason to "think" about anything else - "seriously" or otherwise.

Why?
Had it since 2005, it does everything it's supposed to, works great, no problems!..:C
Ain't broke - sure doesn't need any fixing.

However, I've never owned a B&W - so no way to compare..:@

IMO - that statement probably applies to 99% of the owners of either brand.

Sooooo - unless you can find those "one percenters", suggest you do a search on each brand and see what the owners have to say about their respective hitches..;)

I have it because it was on my truck (Long-bed) when I bought it.
I'm also an engineer, and for a long-bed, the superglide is needlessly complex.
The more complex any device is the more likely it is to fail and the more maintenance is required to prevent that.

For a short-bed, it works very well. I suspect that I would prefer the SuperGlide to a manual glide.

When someone tells you to buy the same rig they own, listen, they might be right. When they tell you to buy a different rig then they own, really pay attention, they probably know something you don't.

I have a Superglide and love it. Just act like your towing with a long bed truck and don't worry about clearance issues. Good luck.
