Reese 30032 jaws

I have a Reese 30032 5th wheel hitch and have several questions and bout it. I cannot find a manual for my model. I need to know when do the jaws need to be changed if ever, how much movement should the jaws have, how do you adjust them, what lubricant if any to use. The hitch came with the 2005 Chevy truck I just bought. Any help?

I'll repost your question as some must not have read it.

We had a thread the last week or two with a 30032 owner asking how to adjust slop out of his hitch. The thread turned into a cheer leading session/fiasco by the usual noisy crowd that their hitch brand was best/etc.
Reese makes several different jaw types over the years. I don't think anyone came up with a picture of the 30032 hitch jaws.

If you could show us a link from Reese for those 30032 jaws and what they look like some member may have experience with your question.

IMO a email or use their 1-800 tech line to Reese would be the most factual place to give you some help.

To the OP, this is the best advice you can get here. :B
  • I have a Reese 30047 hitch and I don't know what the difference is between a 30032 and 30047. I had my 30047 for about 3 years and last August I noticed the jaws seemed to have a fair amount of up and down movement plus I did hear a bang sound a couple of times when I pulled ahead from a dead stop. I took the head part of the hitch to the dealer I purchased it from and they discussed it with the Reese Rep. Reese replaced the 16k hitch head with a brand new 16K hitch head. If you are concerned that there is too much jaw movement take it to a reliable dealer to be checked. Before Reese agreed to replace the 16K head the dealer told me it would cost the same to replace the jaws with new ones as it would to replace the 16K hitch head.

I am currently trying to sell my Reese hitch so that I would be able to buy a new B&W.

Hope things get resolved for you.

  • I had a Reese for several years. I used a lube plate on the king pin. As far as lube I think I used WD40 our other spray lubes. I also used a small amount of grease on the king pin. That was about all. It still want clank taking off and stopping. Another problem was unhooking. Just a hard hitch to get unhooked from. I've found a lot better hitch.
  • I'll go out on a limb here and take a wild guess.....Your hitch is "clunking" when you stop and start and possibly "popping" and "creaking" when towing and backing?

I had a Reese and it did those things from the day it was new. I put up with it for 2 years and then replaced it with another brand which does none of those bad things.

I won't say what I replaced it with but the initials are BW. :W

On edit: I am a retired trucker with 3.5 million safe miles and I know what a proper connection between a tow vehicle and a trailer is supposed to feel and sound like.

My best advice is contact Reese, lots of opinion on here, and some may be right, but I am sure Reese will.
