We turn ours back to back and put a blanket over them with a bit wedged between the seat backs. Ours are in the back window with no tie downs. If tie down straps are there, I would use them. We use pool noodle pieces for the dining room. Table is pushed near window with pool noodle between. Chairs are laid on their sides with noodles on top of the chair backs so there is padding if anything shifts. The chairs do move a little sometimes.
