roof issues on new crossroads elevation

I have a new 2014 4012 elevation. I love the trailer but after I got it home the roof membrane looked like it was to short and was pulling away from where it goes under the side moulding. I sent it back to the big dealer in tampa who halfazz repaired it by rubbing caulking on it and sent it back to me. not happy with the repair they sent a transporter back and picked it up and half azz repaired it a second time. it also has wrinkles along the edge on both sides. I have a brand new trailer that looks as if I have had some kind of mishap. I am at my wits end with the dealer and their service and customer relations. crossroads has suggested taking it to a different dealer. that can be a different rant later. my question is why does my roof look like this, is this normal or should I be asking for a new roof. thanks for any input
  • thanks for the feedback and info. I should have some answers this week into which direction I need to go
  • You or the dealer should be able to pull the molding and see if the roof membrane is pulled and fastened correctly. If it's short and is pulling out from the molding, on a new rig, I would ask for a new roof under warranty either by the dealer if they are capable or back to the factory...
  • At this point you need to send photos along with a certified letter to Crossroads with a response required date. {snip} Also I would apply a decent tape over the area in question to seal it well while waiting for proper repair.

new to website trying to figure out posting a pic. the pre delivery was great. roof looked like a new one. my 5 year old trade looked like new. it wasn't till a month later when the roof looked like it was shrinking and becoming wavy only in the front. the good thing is the dealer the factory is recommending is only an hour away. the are a crossroad dealer but do not handle the elevation line. so maybe I will be treated ok. like you said they get paid for warranty work . thanks for all the input. any photo tips?

it wasn't till a month later when the roof looked like it was shrinking and becoming wavy only in the front.

Sounds like it maybe catching air and pulling up as you drive. I have a friend with a brand new Fusion ToyHauler, that has had problem with rubber roof ballooning up as he drove it, bad thing is you can't see it when happening, once stopped hard to tell. His worked it way back to the first AC unit and actually torn on the AC shroud.

RV dealer replaced roof under warranty, after tear on the AC, although that took a little fighting/debating on what caused it, MFG first denied claim.

Couple months later after first fix, I was heading home and my friend came up and passed me on the highway, as I looked in mirror, I see his roof ballooning up, catching air again, as he traveled at highway speeds. It was pulling up a good foot or so.

He had to purchase a GO-Pro camera, video the roof in action, to prove to dealer and Mfg that there was still an issue, they at first said no issue, wrinkles were normal, blah, blah.......

Somehow, somewhere, air was coming through front cap into & under the rubber roof. His has a light in the middle of the front cap, I believe they resealed.

They think it was the top portion of front cap & seal around roof, he now has a lot of sealant, gobs, & gobs, and it seems to be holding down.

Stay on it and good luck! Don't take wrinkles are normal if they are changing and were not there to begin with, something incorrect may be going on there.

  • Sadly it's often the case. One reason I always recommend a detailed Pre-Delivery Inspection before you sign the loan paper work. They will work their tails off to that that unit out the door, after that it's take a number and wait for many dealerships. A call to the manufacturer showing them the "repairs" may get some assistance or they may recommend another dealer that will be happy to take their money for warranty work.
  • I will get some pix up shortly. the dealer is a joke they are living up to their name LAZY. I looked for over a year and a half and decided to go new. the dealer was great until I payed for the unit, now my service writer sucks, the service mgr is worse. no communication what so ever. have spoke to the factory which seems helful but they are in Indiana im in south florida. like I said now they are wanting me to go somewhere else for service. I cant imagine how I will be treated if I didn't buy the unit there, guess we shall see. other then the roof I am pretty happy. I haven't heard much about the elevation. hope I made the right decision. thanks for the input:)
  • Photos would not only help us, but I'd also contact the manufacturer and they can work with the dealer to get it right.
  • Pictures would help. I would think it should go over the edge and behind the molding. And even though it goes behind the molding there should be butyl putty between the molding and the roofing. Even at that, I would run a bead of sealant along the top edge of the molding. But thats just me.
