Rubber roof wash/cleaner

Does any fellow campers know what kind of rubber roof wash or cleaner is the best or close that anyone has the best luck with and not a brand name or close, my roof on 5th wheel is moldy and black spots in some spots and the best way to use it?

Thank you, Ron from Wisconsin.
  • Spic and Span in a bucket of water and a cup of Clorox. Rinse roof then using a soft bristle brush, scrub the roof and let stand to allow the bleach to work on the mold. Then rinse, rinse, rinse. Go over any tough spots again.
  • Winnebago says: "Wash the surface with granulated household cleaner mixed in a solution with water."
  • When I coated the roof of our 96 Southwind with Heng's Rubber Roof Coating, they recommended first cleaning the roof with Tide powdered laundry detergent. So, that's what I used. It worked well.
  • Gbopp, not a Winnie but seems what Winnebago recommends.

I usually use just Spic & Span but Clorox would be good for a bad mold stain. Mop in the same manner as a kitchen floor only rinse with garden hose instead of 2nd mopping.

I also use a soft bristled "Van wash" type brush instead of a mop but that is because I like it better.. No reason other than *I* like it better..
  • Products like Spic & Span, Zud cleaner, Soft Scrub, things with chlorine in them followed by a good rinsing followed by a washing with an automotive liquid soap & soft brush followed by rinse, rinse, rinse finished with an RV rubber roof preserver as per instructions.

Did I mention rinse thoroughly between steps?

When finished admiring your work get off the roof & start on the sides cause you know where all that stuff off the roof went don't you. Any wax you had on the sides is now on the ground. Time to wash & wax the sides.

You sure you want to do the roof?
  • Must admit I have only done the abrasive Spic & Span type cleaner once when I first got the trailer & it had spent some time in storage not far from a highway & collecting soot.

Once the initial cleaning was done it has been a maintenance program of step 2 & 3. The easy steps.
