You definitely don't need a dually for the 27-5L. A diesel would be logical seeing as your sig says you're in Co. Elevation and mountains will rob the gasser of power.
From personal experience of towing a slightly smaller 5'er weighing 9000lbs with an 1800lb pin I would go diesel living where you live. I live in Oregon and while we don't have the high El roads that CO does we do have our share of mtns and hills. I tow with a Ram 2500 CTD and never find myself needing any more power. Stick with the 350/3500 if going with a diesel as you'll loose some payload over a gasser. A 14 Ram 2500 6.4 will tow it fine also and have plenty of payload. Could save you $9000.00 by going that route. There's a member on here towing 12,000lbs with a Ram 2500 6.4 and seems to be pleased.
JMHO but if you plan on towing a lot go diesel. If you're just out for 5-6 weekends and an occasional 1-week vacations a gasser will do fine.
