Slide question.

We (wife actually) are looking at new fifth wheels. She really likes the Cardinal and Cedar Creeks. The kitchen slide floor in the Cedar Creek does not lie flat like the Cardinal or our current FW. There is a 1 or 2" step up on the lip, looks like a good toe stubber.

My question is this, why does Cedar Creek make the slide like this and is this a better design? We (she) prefers the flush floor but likes the CCW layout better.
  • Years ago all slides had the 2 inch step, flush floor slides are a later development. We have both the flush floor with the dinette and the sofa slide and the kitchen/entertainment slide with the lip. The face of the kitchen cabinets covers the lip but the entertainment section it is exposed. 7 years haven't stumped my toes cooking and DW hasn't complained when cleaning up after.
  • Our Open Range is like that. WE just learned to deal with it and it has never been an issue. IF it is a cable slide like ours there are some real advantages to it. One is the weight. Cable slides are vary light and save you payload. Another is that it lets you use the slides at any position.
