Water pump leaking

We had a night of freezing temperatures last night. While checking on my 2000 Excel 5th wheel, I found water under the trailer after I had run the water pump. Found when I run the pump water leaks out from the seam where the pump joins the vacuum and hose assembly. I am pretty much mechanically challenged. So my question is if I don't run the pump it seems I have no leak. However if I hook up to city water (which I always do) will there be any problem with leaks from the water pump. We have a trip scheduled in a week and no time to get it fixed. Thanks for any help.

If it is leaking anywhere on part#1 of Biscuit's exploded view, I would just go ahead and replace the pump. Some things are fixable and some things are not worth the effort.

I just ordered the new part, now just hope it gets here by Saturday.
    Again, thanks for the help.

Exploded view (if crack is on part #1 it will leak when connected to city water as that portion will be pressurized by city water)

    Replacement part is #5----about $57

The Classic (2088) is being discontinued....good news a better direct replacement pump (4008) can be purchased for $62

Either get the new pump OR disconnect discharge hose and plug it off

The seam where 1 and 3 join is leaking. I think I will order the new one and see if it gets here before Saturday. Thanks for the help. There are a lot of smart folks on this site.

Hook up a hose and try it.

That's a good idea. Soon as it warms up a little I will try that.

Don't know what 'vacuum and hose assembly' is...cause there isn't any vacuum.

Suction side of pump??? Suction strainer..clear bowl assembly???

Pump internal check valve should stop water from flowing backwards thru pump when connected to city water.......should!

Is this what is leaking??? About $10

If can't find one soon enough..remove it and use 1/2" PVC plug...screw into end of pump

No that is not what is leaking. On the pump it has a strainer on the vacuum side but that not what is leaking. It's the housing on the end of the pump motor.
  • The pump is a Shur flo model 2088 403 144. The leak is at the seam in the black plastic housing on the front of the pump motor where the hose connections are. The housing on the front is two sections screwed together. I checked the screws and they are tight. I think that if I only hook to city/park water I will be ok until I can replace the pump. Just trying to confirm that. Thanks again for the help.
  • If the pump is leaking between the water tank and the pump on the inlet side, it should not be a problem, when hooked to city water. If it leaks on the outlet side, from pump to faucet, it may leak when hooked to city water.

There should be a check valve in the pump, to not allow city water back through.

    Good luck,
    Jerry
