Been a while since I posted, but we've spent the last year getting ready to dive into the RV lifestyle. Sold the sticks and bricks - tentative closing August 9th. Staying for oldest son's wedding 10/16 and then hitting the road! We are domiciling in FL and will be going there the first week of August to establish banking and get my car registered. Hopefully we will also be able to get our healthcare set up to start as of 9/2 when we will be quitting our jobs. Any suggestions would be helpful on this - we will be using St. Brendan's Isle for Mail so our choices will be out of Clay county. We'll probably snowbird this first year so we can work out the "bugs", but we have friends who are itching to travel the country with us. It's a bit surreal at this point,but I CAN'T WAIT! We changed our domicile to Florida with SBI mail service at the start of this year. In addition to passports, they required other items (like mail and proof of FL insurance) to issue our DLs.
Maybe I missed it, but I did not see any mention of registering your rv in FL. For full timers, RV is registered before DL's are issued. Then they use the your rv license plate for the address on the DL.

Since we did the whole bit at once, I am not sure what you will need if registering car before getting Florida DL's; check the websites carefully. Also be careful of legalities. If I recall correctly, you are supposed to register vehicles within 10 days of becoming FL residents and get DL's within 30 days.

Thankfully, we have not needed to see doctors since we we changed domiciles. Hubby is on Medicare. I bought a high deductable plan from Humana. Not great out of network coverage, so I hope not to need care on the road. If you do not yet qualify for Medicare and are able to find non-medicare plans with good nationwide coverage, please post the info.

When I had to go to the DMV to renew my license, all she was interested in was my passport. I had every piece of paper I thought they wanted to prove my identity, but she literally plucked my passport out of my hand. So, if you have a passport, that should be a big help.

Congrats and welcome to Florida!! The DMV site (make sure it's the official site) has a list of things you will need to have when you get your driver's licenses. Change your mail first so you will have bills going to the FL address before you get to FL. Basically, you will need a photo ID, your social security card and 2 pieces of mail showing your new address. For healthcare, if you are going to full time you should find a national company that will cover you wherever you travel. Blue Cross Blue Shield has Blue Choice that might work. Do not get an HMO!
