04 Monaco rear not airing up

I have a friend here in central FL and he is having a problem with his coach. It's an 04 Monaco, I believe it's a 43' with a tag axle. The problem and it is intermittent is that the "REAR" of the coach does not come up to ride height all the time. He has had conversation with HWH but they have not been much help. Any suggestions?

Take heed this advice as we had lost one our park members before this snowbird season to a very similar situation.

Again thanks for all the suggestions and I have passed this site on to my friend to monitor for any further information. Steve
  • Alliance Coach in Wildwood FL is an HWH service center and they used to be the Monaco factory service center. They fixed our rear air on our 2004 Country Coach. It was a bad or sticking air valve. They have an RV Park with water and electric hookups where you can stay for free. I would call them as they are very busy this time of year but will work you in if they have a slot.
  • I had this happen when the ride height linkage failed. In my case it aired up one side higher than the other. It would be odd for both linkage to fail at the same time. The HWH is supposed to default to travel height if it loses power. Pull the fuses for the air leveling to see if it comes to ride height. There are 3 on mine. The travel solenoid at the rear leveling manifold might also be sticking.

  • Thanks for the replies so far and I'll pass them along as soon as the rain stops here and I can get over to his place.

Dennis, Yes it does not air up when he tries to leave. I don't understand all the complex systems on DP's but in looking at his coach just sitting in his port yesterday, it didn't appear that the leveling system had aired up the rear. It sure appears down to me.
  • While I agree with Ivylog on most of what he said, his coach also has a rear ride height valve which could be sticking. More info is needed as to WHEN the rear drops. Does it happen while he's parked for a day or two or does it just not come up to height when he's trying to leave?....if he calls Monaco, have the last 6 digits of his VIN as well as a very detailed description of what's happening with his coach.....Dennis

I'd call Monaco... 877.466.6226 as it's a RR10S Roadmaster BUT a intermittent problem is a pain to solve. Assuming the front comes up and both air gauges are 110+ psi it's not the air dryer or a air leak. It's not the tag axle as it by it's self cannot raise the back. There are two ride height valves on the rear drive axle which controls the height of the rear axle, but it's the HWH air leveling that is the only thing that would control/stop both of them from working properly assuming you have 110+ air pressure.

When this happens I'd try raising the back by pressing the Level button twice on the HWH control panel and then the up rear arrow. Once up, put the Allison in D, see if it stays up. If it does not stay up then I'd raise it again, but hit the Emergency Stop button (lower left) before putting the Allison in D... you do not have to actually move. I agree it's a HWH air leveing problem. If it was the front with only one ride height valve then it could be either.

How about a call to freightliner. Is it on their chassis??

    I believe it's a Roadmaster chassis??
