1988 gulf stream sun vista 36'

Hello, I purchased this beautiful gulf stream the end of last year. The question I have is about the transmission cooler. I have to replace it do to leaking ,I have searched the web but am very confused. The transmission cooler incorporate the power steering I think. The left side of it has two lines that go to the tranny and the right side has two lines going to the power steering. I cannot find one on line this big 20"x 27 1/2". The question I have should I purchase (2) cooler's one for the transmission and one for the power steering? Any input would be great help . Trying to get it ready for up and coming road trip's with the family.

Hi Gary thanks for the site . I went on it and it was over whelming and confusing none of the unit's have gvw's on them ,so I called the 800 # and spoke to one of the rep.s .He was very helpful he said he had never heard of a cooler the size I have. The cooler I have is the size of the radiator, the top half goes to the tranny and the bottom half goes to the oil. They carry tranny cooler and oil cooler in one unit's they seem to be an awful lot smaller and they don't give a gvw on the unit's, but it has a electric fan with the unit.I really don't want to go this route wiring another fan. so I think I'm going to purchase (2) cooler's the largest they carry (1) for the tranny and (1) for the oil and mount them on top of each other so it will be as close to the same size as the old cooler.
  • If you over cool then you might have a shift issue, also, if you travel in the winter, you will have to put a cover on part of the cooler again due to shift issues. I have one the wife made and it slips on during the winter and off in the summer.
  • I know it's common that the transmission cooler to be part of the radiator. Never heard of a power steering cooler. I added a second transmission cooler ( stacked plate ) in series with the one in the radiator. The stacked plate was rated at 28k gvw. I have a separate oil cooler that ties into the oil filter assy.
  • Okay I'm back to this cooling again trying to get it ready for a road trip next month. I finally got the a/c condenser out of the way to see what I have the cooler is the same size as the radiator.Well it turns out the the tranny cooler and the oil cooler are all in one unit upper half tranny and lower oil. I have tried to find cooler'S that are ruffly the same size with no avail. The stamp in the the coach say's it 15,550 GVW does that sound rite? If so should I buy a cooler rated for 30,000 or above seeing that I will be towing a toad and a dolly behind it? Thanks for any input.
  • That really up to you. your call. The more you put in front of the cooling system just takes away from it. But that said, you can put fans on them and mount them where you want. Out here where I live Southern New Mexico we stay near 100 plus. I have to climb leaving West 1000 feet and East 5000 feet so I like to keep things cool. Just size them to your weight. put the old one on the power steering and new one on Tran, or replace both.

So you think I should purchase two coolers one for each of the systems?
