2001 Bounder windshield repair/replace

Well, today I brought the MH out of winter storage, and find that there's a hole in the windshield, passenger's side, Could be from a BB gun. Question- do you have experience with getting the windshield repaired (Safelite) or does it have to be replaced. It's about 14 " up, and at the beginning of the radius going around to the side portion. The fractured area is about the size of a quarter. Don't have any experience with the resin repair and whether there's just too much stress on the window.

Thanks
  • Get a glass shop to fix the hole, if it doesn't work, you can always replace it later.

  • Best resin fixers are affiliated with GlasWeld. If there's a tech near you, ask them. Best windshield replacers are RV Glass Solutions. They have installers all over the country.

In my experience, if the hole is all the way thru the glass, the resin won't do the trick and you'll need to replace it. If it's just thru the outer layer, then the resin will probably work if it's done right.

Your insurance company may want to get involved if the windshield needs to be replaced. Depending on your insurance, it may be less expensive in the long run to pay for the resin treatment out of pocket rather than file a claim. Never know what will trigger a rate increase these days.

  • Had the same damage. Bull's-eye from a BB gun. My insurance covered the repair work by Safelight. They came to the house and performed a resin fill of the crack. That was five years ago and the damage hasn't grown and the glass has passed state inspection each year.

As long as only one layer of the glass is damaged and any cracks have not grown it can be repaired. It the damaged extends to the interior glass or cracks are bigger than a dollar bill I not sure if can be repaired.
  • Depends on the damage. Even the repair techs can't tell you exactly what to expect if the repair is done. They can, however tell you whether they can do the repair or not. Just make sure you have a reputable company come out...stay away from the popups at the car washes.

Most insurance companies will cover that type of windshield repair without charging a deductible. I've had several over the years in my cars. In the moho, one lasted 4 years before cracking again, needing a windshield replacement. Another one only lasted several months. Both times I was not charged for either the repair or the new windshields. And my rates have not increased.....Dennis
