Looking at purchasing a 2001 holiday rambler imperial 38 pbdd, 70,000 miles. Any owners if the same that can tell us pros/cons/problems that they have had. Anything in particular to watch out for?

Thank you in advance for your responses.

We own a 2000 HR Imperial 38ft rig. It had 65,000 miles when we purchaed it three years ago. We have had minimal mechanical problems other than routine maintenance items. Request all prrevious maintenance records, original books on the rig. If possible talk with the previous owner. This is our second motorhome..our Imperial is equipt with all the bells and whistles so if possible have the previous owner of dealer give you a walk throught about all the systems. Our first few trips were a learning experience!
We feel the unit is a quality product/

Fishinghat covered it well. There is a group over at Edmunds that I know of. On a personal note, I've only heard good things about them. Didn't know they switched to Power Products jacks...
4 whopping cylinders on Toyota RV's. Talk about great getting good MPG. Also I have a very light foot on the pedal. I followed some MPG advice on Livingpress.com and I now get 22 MPG! Not bad for a home on wheels.

I have the 2001 Scepter which shares a lot with the Imperial.
No complaints, plenty of power and the quality is excellent.

I have the 40 pkdd. No complaints after 4 years of ownership. Typical MH issues. My jacks are RVA. Maintenence records were the most important thing to me.

The 2001 Imperial is a nice rig built after Monaco bought the company but before quality control started slipping. I'm aware that Monaco started saving money by using Power Products jacks instead of HWH, and several owners have complained. I'm not aware of other specific cost cutting measures.

If you are buying from a private party, you can PM me. I may know the owner. Many HR owners are members of the HR RV club, and if you buy the rig, you're welcome to join. There is an active chapter in Edmonds.
