But the torque number is up, so something has changed.

Having said that, the OP states it's for the stripped chassis, so who knows what it will be in MH duty.

Either way, I'd take more torque over more HP any day.

The 320/460 are the numbers listed for the F53 chassis - which is what the OP said and I missed it. :S

It's very likely its only being rated at a lower RPM to meet EPA noise regs for MDT motors. They had to do this to the 6.2L V8 as well. So... very possible it actually makes more HP, but they can't put it in the specs because those determine the RPM the sound test is done at.

One of the long-standing complaints about this drivetrain was the "screaming RPM". If indeed it has been "down RPM'ed", IMO, that would make it MORE appealing, not less.

I would easily trade a few HP (and really, how often are you going to stay at over 4700 RPM) for lower fuel consumption (think 10 cylinders being "fed" at Wide Open Throttle" every other time the piston comes to TDC 4,700 times a minute!)

BTW, even at 320 horsepower, you'll still beat me in a race up the mountain or the on-ramp. I'm hauling 56,000 pounds with 600 HP. The F-53 with a toad is more likely to be around 21,000-24,000 pounds. You'd still have plenty of power even at the reduced numbers. But, obviously, the lighter, the better.

The old 362 horsepower used to be generated at 4,750 RPM. Now you get 320 at 4,000 RPMs. It looks as if Ford has reduced the RPMs for some reason (probably emissions or fuel economy). That really blows. This engine doesn't have a redline tachometer either because all shifts are controlled by the computer so I'm not sure if the 4,000 RPM is a hard limit or if you can get more out of it straight from the factory. I'd imagine that lower RPMs will also negatively affect the engine brake.

On the plus side, this engine should be much quieter.

There is a possibility that you could flash the ECM and increase the RPMs and horsepower if you really wanted to. You might want to call 5 star tuning and ask him if this is possible.

The F53 chassis is rated at a different RPM.

The difference is only on paper. Old trick for different reasons
