- Matt_ColieExplorer III had one for about 15 years. The Tornado (as was said above) was an iron engine with a HUge aluminum cam cover. It was a solid motor 230 cuin with more torque than a 305 Chevy, but real long stroke so no top end. If you did it right, you could even keep oil in it.
Matt - wolfe10ExplorerInteresting engine-- never seen one:

- Off_PavementExplorer IIPretty cool, but the Tornado engine was a cast iron affair.
- azrvingExplorerVery cool but I can imagine the repairs and time needed! All aluminum engine from1963!!! Is that good??? Maybe I have worked on too many old Jeeps. :)
I used to moonlight on a fleet of old Jeeps from 50's to early 70's models. I cut a few of them down the center and narrowed them by 8 inches so they could broom snow off of city sidewalks and not tear up the lawn. Cut the rear axle housing and narrowed it and ran the short axle shaft in both sides for about 8 1/4 inch narrower track. We had a custom made and hardened front shaft for the long side of the dana 27.
