A/C not working. Mice?

I have been remodeling a house for the last few months so haven't been around mh much during that time. The fresh cab in there got old and I got mice back in my a/c ducts. I put some new fresh cab in and turned on the fans to circulate it. When I went back in the next morning, the rear unit was not blowing.

The thermostat does not even show that there is a rear unit. The zone numbers, 1 & 2 light up but when I select zone 2, the rest of the screen is blank. My thought is that the mice chewed the communication wire. Any other ideas where to get started trouble shooting?

They are dometic penguins with a 5 button comfort control thermostat. Thanks in advance.
  • If it is the one from the two units, just run it inside your duct. if from the unit to the thermostat then use a pull pole. See if one of your friends might pull wire has one. Make sure to seal ducts where you put the two holes good. Better to replace it than trying to splice it. You can use Cat 5e cable if you have. Not as bad of getting ate threw. Just pick four wires out of the 8.
  • Found the problem. Mice got the communication wire and another small wire near the unit itself. I pulled on the wires and got about 2 feet out of the ceiling. Now to figure out how to get to it to fix it. At least I caught one of those little trouble makers in a trap.
  • Undo your stat from the wall and check that phone cable. Mice chewed up one of my wires and I was able to repair it.

  • Thanks for the link. Did the reset and now zone 2 is completely gone. Guess i'll run a temp phone cord and see what happens.
  • do a reset on the thermostat.

Here is the manual , Print it out for your use.
