adjustable bed

I'm looking for info on a motorized queen size bed. Like a temperpedic style, that pulls up against the wall where you can sit up in bed. Somewhere on this forum a member made his own but I can not find the link now. Anyone have any experience with this?
  • Crasster,

I have an air type mattress. Although it flexes fairly easily, there is a significant load that keeps pushing it off the platform as the head of the mattress raises. I have a felt covering on the platform (from the factory). First I tried a 2" raised edge at the foot of the bed but the mattress pushed over it. Then I went to a 5" raised edge and that worked well. You could probably try a strap across the mattress at the point of flexing but you might feel it as it would have to be fairly tight. My mechanism raises about 60 degrees.

I made a manual version of this last week. I can adjust the head to 3 different positions and the knees to 2 positions...we find that in our stick and bricks we typically leave the bed in the same position anyway so manual seemed fine for me...still need to do a few tweaks (like adding something to keep the mattress from sliding) but I think it's going to work great! If you are interested, look in the Mods section of this site...
Interesting. How inconvenient is the mattress slide? Depending on what is under it, we have found that those rubbery cabinet liners (for home cabinets) can keep mattresses from sliding (but all depends on what is under it).

  • jtad,

You may have read one of my posts on iRV2 in their Mods to RV's forum. I have a 07 Revolution that I have made significant changes to including an articulating bed. The back raises and moves toward the wall to allow an additional 15" of additional walking space at the foot of the bed. It does not flex at the knee area like the Temperpedic. The design was specific to my Revolution and probably won't fit any other coach without modification. Winnebago featured a similar design (which is where I got the idea) but Lippert would not return my emails and neither would the vendors listed on their website as I wanted to do the installation myself.

If you send me a PM with your email I can give you some more info.
