Air Release

Quite normal, air deflates the airbags, lowers the coach and now you level, either auto or manual.

Olylen is right, it's normal.

If the coach didn't release air, your level legs might have to stretch to their full extent and might not level the coach. Once the coach is lower, then it will better for the system to level. And sometimes, sites can be so out of level that auto level doesn't work well.

With hydraulic or electric leveling jacks and an air suspension system, if you didn't dump the air then it's possible the air suspension could be fighting the leveling system in trying to establish the correct "ride height". More prevalent likely on unlevel ground.

We drop our air pressure down to about 45 lbs before we level the coach.

For that vintage HR, the proper method for leveling per the manual is
1. slides out
2. air out (releases air from suspension so jacks do not have to extend as far to level the rig - if you don't do this manually before leveling it releases air when you turn key on to activate leveler system)
3. jacks out

When leaving , reverse procedure - jacks up, air up, slides in

Many will argue but if you read the manufacturer's recommendation, this always has slides moving in and out with full air in system and at "ride height"

It makes more sense to me for my motorhome to be level and sitting on 4 solid feet, prior to moving slides (in or out). On my Dutch Star/Spartan, this means dump air, level with hydraulic levelers, then extend the slide-outs.

I'm with Cloud Dancer. Makes more sense that the jacks should be down whenever retracting or extending the slides. I wonder if the author of the HR manual got it wrong? If they got it right, seems a bit strange.

Makes more sense to me too, BUT that's not the way Monaco wants it done. The manual says to always have the system fully aired up when moving the slides in or out, then level.

Actually, it makes more sense to me the way Monaco stated in our manual on the Dynasty. Move slides in or out at ride height.

If you think about it, if you have to lift one corner excessively, you are putting a strain on the chassis. The 'square box' could be slightly stressed for the slide to move in or out.

Our current coach requires that the coach be at ride height while the slides are moving in or out. Then, we can level on the air bags.
