Alternate for the door magnet

I have the door magnet that operates the steps. I have broken it numerous times. I've even made my own but it keeps breaking. The door on this mh is fairly narrow for size 13 shoes, luggage, etc. Does anyone know of a good alternative for the door magnet that is more dependable?

Putting the magnet at the TOP of the door works pretty good.
  • The magnet goes on the door
Are you breaking the magnet, or is it the door sensor switch on the door frame?

Do a rewire move the sensor up to the to of the frame put the magnet at the top of the door

YOu could convert to a different type of switch.. Now back to topic
"There are a whole lot of places you can get magnets... But my magnet is mounted on the inner (Screen) door.. So when the door is open it's a long long long way from my size 12.5 Gunboats.
  • As I see the solution there are two potential choices, reposition or replacement. Moving the magnet, reposition, is a pretty simple fix with the hardest part being hiding the wire behind the door framing if possible.

You could rework the "stay out" switch from its current function to that of manually controlling the extension/retraction of the steps. Call this the replacement option. Probably the least desirable particularly when you go to exit the coach after driving which makes for a long last step. Also forgetting to hit the switch to retract when you start out and leave the steps out while going down the road and make a right turn that is a little close the the curb.
  • Thanks for the comments. I did move the magnet from the front side of the door to the side rail of the door which will put it more out of the line of fire. I'll try that for a while before moving the sensor. Thanks again!
