Any pull a toad with a View, Navion or Solera?

Wondering if anyone pulls a toad with one of these small motorhomes? Possibly a Honda CRV? How well does it pull? How well does it stop? I have an exhaust break on my Monaco that is essential with large hills. The small ones here do not. So is it a nightmare are going down a steep pass?

Thanks for any comments.

My experience on northbound Utah 12 was there were a few downgrades where 2nd gear wouldn't hold the RPMs and I had to stab the brakes a few times. The steeper upgrades are in 2nd gear, 45 mph, with the pedal on the floor. You just lose a couple of minutes compared to flying up at 60. If you let the RPMs drift to redline going downhill, it will upshift. I can just picture the design meeting for that one: "Do we hold the gear and maybe destroy the engine, or let the vehicle fly off the cliff? Let's save the engine!". All in all, with enough planning and attention, it's no problem with the car on the back. I have one of the older V6 Sprinters. The newer versions have more engine power.

Same here. I was heading northbound too with a toad. I was in 2nd also both ways. Going uphill I was dealing with construction too so that slowed me some.

We tow a Mini Clubman:

We recently went on a caravan to Alaska, including a trip across Top of the World Highway.

Here we are in line for the ferry across the Yukon at Dawson City, YT:

These shots were taken at the turn out just past the US/Canada border crossing, with the sign about Top of the World Highway:

And here we are in Chicken, AK. Except for an extra 50 lbs of dirt, everything was great!

All pictures above are clickable thumbnails.

Before this, we crossed the Canadian Rockies. So, the View can tow a fully loaded Mini (about 3200 lbs) on steep mountainous grades and through slippery mud roads. We use a Roadmaster base plate and NSA surge brake system.

If you search on my username, you will find the post I made when the hubby installed the baseplate.

Will the engine and transmission hold the mh on a hill?

Depends on the hill and the load. Coming down Snoqualmie westbound, I shift into 4th and have to make a couple of brake applications to stay at 60. Utah 12 was a crawl but it's twisty too....never got the brakes too hot though.

Lots of folks tow behind them. I tow a 2000 Tracker behind mine. I have an RVi Brake. No issues descending....I just drop down to the appropriate gear. I came down a 14% descent on Utah 12 in that config. I won't say I enjoyed it as I'd never made a descent like that EVER in an RV but it was fine. It had my undivided attention all the way down. I go over our major local pass (Snoqualmie) at about 50 when pulling the toad. I try to take it easy. I'm still passing all the tractor trailers and running with all the other loaded RVs.
