The little sticky up thing is an anti billow arm. If the wind tries to unfurl the slide topper it turns against a strike plate on the side of the RV and prevents it. If installed correctly it will make the bungee cord unnecessary. When the topper extends normally the arm just misses hitting the strike plate.

Works for me... and it's free.

For the main patio awning, I wrap one from the mounting bracket around the awning as marked on this image, and it stops the wind from getting in.

For my slideout toppers, I hook the bungies to the little "sticky-up bit" you can see in the image below, and wrap it around the fabric.

Ahh! Ok, I can see that working with the metal over wrap. I wouldn't count on it with a fabric only awning though.

They weren't hard to mount at all. The number of links can be adjusted to fit your installation, and lower hook rod has three different locations for fine tuning. You use your awning rod to hook and unhook it. I had wood behind the upper mounting plate, and for the lower piece, I used a sealer/adhesive so the screws weren't the only thing holding it. I used the same sealer/adhesive on the top too, just because it was already at hand. Just a sealer would have worked there.

I made one myself that uses the single bolt on the awning arm and a spring loaded pin that inserts into the hole in the end cap of the awning (where Tom showed the awning rod going).

Dutch12078 Was it hard to mount? Was there wood to anchor to under fiberglass? any tips??
