awnng pull down strap broke

You can raise and lower by pulling on the arms (may need 2 people) ....replacement available at any decent rv place and camping world.

Just borrow a second pull down rod from a neighbour and have Him help pull at both ends. Then slip a new pds into the little groove!

In a pinch you could always tie a cord to the awning at both ends and pull down that way!

any place that sell fabric should have a nylon strap you can replace it with. Have replaced most of mine.

I always carry spares because they're cheap, and the sun and heat tends to make them brittle.

Camping World has them on sale for $3.29. Get several..if one breaks the others will soon follow...

To replace:

1. Open awning and tie it in the open position.
2. Drill along the track on one end. All you're trying to do is open up the track a little so the rubber "T" can be pulled out.
3. Remove old strap by moving it to the end of the modified track.
4. Push "T" of the new strap into the track using a small screwdriver or the handle of a plastic spoon/knife/fork.
5. Slide new strap into the middle of the awning and enjoy....

Don't know about other awnings but on mine there is no need to drill an end cap to replace the strap. It slides in the same groove that allows us to hang straps for awning lights, hanging flower pots, screen rooms etc. The groove the strap is in is open at the end of the roller closest to the rear of the motorhome.

I have done this alone before.

Put your awning control lever/handle in the "down" position. Grab a picnic table and pull it up beside your rig. Grab the awning in the middle and start pulling out and down. The mechinism in the awning should hold it from closing just as it does when you use the strap.

Eventually you will see what's left of the broken end of the strap, grab it and continue to deploy the awning until it is fully extended. The awning strap is attached to a plastic "T" in a groove. Slide it towards the rear of the rig and you should see that the groove lines up with a pre-cut slot in the end cap of the roller. Remove old strap, insert new pull down.

This has happened to me when I was in the boonies with no replacement strap and nowhere to buy one for 100 miles. If stuck, you can tie some rope around the broken strap leaving enough rope exposed so when the awning is rolled up a piece of rope can be seen. Tie a loop in the end of the exposed rope and you can then use your awning as per normal until you can secure a new pull down.
