Bed/Bed Frame

Well, the saga continues with our discovery of water leaks......

As posted earlier, we decided that after getting caught in the deluge of heavy rains and flooding in South Carolina last October, we would go ahead and pull all the carpet and replace it, knowing that we had had some leaks. We finally got into the bedroom area yesterday and discovered that, unrelated to the flooding in SC, the freshwater gravity fill has apparently been leaking for a while....the back of it is accessible through the closet, which we only found out AFTER we had removed the bed and nightstands and started to pull carpet. It appears that it's been leaking for some time, every time I flushed the freshwater tank and let it overflow through the fill tube, and had created quite a mess on the carpet inside the closet and along the wall behind the bed as the carpet wick'd the water. Fortunately there wasn't any wood rot to speak of, but the bed frame was soaked and starting to expand as well as a good coating of mold along the floor rail of the frame and the wood floor under the carpet. Clorox/water mix and a strong fan to the rescue to kill the mold and dry the floor!

Soooo...needless to say, we are now in the market for a new bed frame. Any suggestions? Would I be just as well off to try to build my own? It's just a box frame with a board on top connected to the wall by a piano hinge and some lift shocks.

The rabbit hole keeps getting deeper..........
