I used Rotella 15w40 in mine teamed up with a K&N oil filter. Drove it all over the country with never a problem. As I remember you want to use Rotella because the 460 was a flat tappet engine.

Possible future SIL bought a newer but used F150. To lazy to change oil so he switched to syn from Dino to reduce oil change frequency. Engine blew, and the mechanic said it happens all the time with Fords. Ok to change to syn, but you have to change it just as often as Dino. So what's the point of spending the extra money unless you're always running hot.

MH's don't get that many miles on them per year. With my Class A 460 I figured Rotella twice a year, worked for me with zero problems.

Well I think the 0-30 Mobil one will exceed all the API Ratings.
Mobil 1 0W-30 meets or exceeds the requirements of, ACEA, A1/B1, API,SN,SM,SL,SJ, ILSAC, GF-5, Ford, WSS-M2C946-A, Ford, WSS-M2C929-A
Mobil one has a new european standard that is 0-40 weight that might be better in the hotter mounths.

Oil viscosity has little to do with oil QUALITY. API ratings tell the story. 0W30 would improve very cold starts.

Walmart brand oil (SuperTech) 5W30 and 10W30 meet API SN standards.

I don't think I have seen a single viscosity oil that meets even 20 year old API standards. (Current is SN. 20 years ago it was SH.)

I saw a demonstration once of two engine oils tested against each other. The test rig simulated oil passages all the way up to the cam, and was made of glass. One oil was straight 30 weight and the other 10-30. The 10-30 always got to the cam much faster than the 30 weight, but the interesting part is it remained true even in 90 degree temps not just cold temps. The lesson being always use a multi-vis oil.

Concur ! Mobil 1 is good, but there are a many other less expensive good oils, including Motorcraft synthetic blend. Even Walmart brand would be acceptable.

I use Walmart House brand synthetic in 460 rig, audi, and volvo .. they don't mfg the weight required by my new Honda so I will have to choose another brand when it comes time to change that oil. I spent many years in Private Label business and I have no problem buying house brands.

ran 15/40 (diesel oil)in many many engines over many miles in the old days
now days the hot running more hitech engines all seem to want 5-20 or 5-30

The best oil is the one recommended for your engine and cahnged regularly. There is no magical best oil. I've never found one oil to be better than an other and have never heard of any oil causing an engine failure. What ever weight oil that is recommended for your engine is what I'd use. Dino or Synthetic is your choice. Just change it regularly. I wouldn't run diesel oil in a gas engine but that's just me. There's plenty of oils to choose from and they're all good.
