Blue Ox Tru Center Installation

Has anyone installed a Blue Ox Tru Center in their Winnebago Journey?
I had the mechanical part of the unit installed installed yesterday and now I have to do the wiring. I'm not intimidated by the wiring aspect, but I am trying to figure out the best place to try to bring the wiring into the cockpit area of the motor home. I wonder if anyone might be able to suggest an easy, safe place to drill, if necessary, to bring the cable inside the coach.

So far I am VERY pleased with the product. I drove the motor home about 20 miles with the unit installed on the steering mechanism, but without the wiring installed. It now goes down the road nice and straight without having to make frequent small movements with the steering wheel.

Where to run the wire.. Usually you can find an existing hole in the firewall to use, if not drill, gromet and attach... I forget how I... Oh, I did not,, They did, I just added some wire under the hood.

Good device by the way, I use one myself.. That 3 minute timer they included in the box... Let me tell you the story about that.

The originals they had problems with folks sitting on the button and burning out the coil... So I was at the shop getting some other work done (YES The BLue-OX factory) and I casually mentioned putting a time out timer in the line....

Well then my Tru-Center failed (Different type of failure) and they sent me a new one...... Complete with the timer.

In one of my other hobbies, 3 minute time out timers are very common.
  • Underneath there is a plate that can be removed to expose the wires going directly in to the True Center. With a voltmeter you should be able to tell if you have voltage going to the unit with the button pushed, and released.

I just picked up a 2008 MH with the True Center installed but it doesn't seem to work (there is a rocker switch just beside the exhaust brake switch). My steering wheel has to be constantly held to the right (getting an alignment done soon).

I looked in the manual and it says you can burn out the device if the switch is held for 30 seconds or more. Maybe the PO did this?

Anyone know how to check to see if something is burnt out? Where should I check for power?

On second thought maybe I should try to see if really is hooked up?? Trace the wires if I can?

    thanks

Older units did have a problem with a fuse if the button was applied for more than than 5 seconds or so. Newer products within the last couple years have been fixed. It really only takes one second to set it while driving. Turn the wheel to where you need the correction, press the button and release. No need to keep holding it in. If a re-correction is needed then do it again.

We have had ours since last year. It has taken the fight out of winds and road crown. But ... If you have really have heavy winds there is only so much offset with the Tru-center.

You'll notice the unit is working when going under overpasses or natural wind blocks when in heavy winds, the MH will head into your correction - so beware. It caught me off gaurd, I though I had a blowout the fist time it happened.

  • I have a panel in a compartment just ahead of front tire and grabbed power from there

Then out of box and up

This is the switch that came with mine and didn't care for it

I picked up a foot switch. I didn't screw it down yet and maybe never will.
  • On my coach I located a wire that already went through the firewall and just fed the wire through the same rubber grommet.
