Camping World for Collision repair? General Auto body shop?

On our way back to NJ from Fla. Pulled into a gas station yesterday I should not have in South Carolina, clearly too small for my 37' pulling our Jeep JKUR. I knew it, she knew it but we had just logged 600 miles for the day and were a few miles from stopping at our campsite. Truth be told I was a bit punchy from the long day. Anyway as we were leaving I clearly didn't negotiate the turn even close to being correct and scraped along the cement pillar that protects the pumps with the passenger side rear. It would up ripping the rear cap back pretty good but with the help of several gas station customers and a sawsall I cut the offending piece off, and was able to get back on the road. We're camping in VA now and want to know how many of us have used Camping World for collision repair as opposed to a body shop.

Thanks,

Bob

Ask your RV insurance agent I'm sure your not the first customer he's had that needed a repair.

I can tell you that in 39 years handling insurance claims for a major carrier, I did not once pay Camping World for a body repair. It was always a body shop that did the repairs.

I assume like the dealerships, Camping World gobbles up ma and pa body shops as well and you never really know what you are walking into. Probably best to stick with a reputable shop.

Check out Tom Schaeffer's RV in Shoemakersville PA. They are constantly busy, and have a huge repair, service and body shop. They are about 130 miles from you, or roughly 50 miles west of the NJ/PA border on rt 78. JMHO, but CW's body shop wouldn't even be a remote possibility, if I was in your situation. If I couldn't find a competent regional repair shop that I could trust, within a few hours of my home in the northeast, I would drive the rig to either the Elkhart, Indiana area, or central Florida, and find an experienced, high volume shop there. Remember, this is nothing like a dented car, depending on a lot of potential issues, this whole deal could take many months to wrap up. Good luck.

This is a much harder question than it was some years back.

I have never gone to CW for Body work.. and will not. Have had them mess up some other work, 100% of the time. and that's why

Today you have body shops and you have BODY SHOPS

Many modern shops just replace fenders.. they don't actually FIX just replace. imagine the cost to replace the entire passengar side of your RV.... OUCH

But I had an older body may (over 50 years in the business) and he was fantastic, If he could not find the part he'd make it.

I also had one repair done by a much younger body man. I saw the work he did on cars (I was having major other work done at that shop) (Xtreme Auto. Townsend GA) and saw the job this kid did. So I had him do some needed body work.. And I was not in the least dissappointed. But he is a "Fix" not a "Replace" type body man. he did a good and proper repair. Just like the old man I used to use (He is no longer in business by the way. Retired).
Home was where I park it. but alas the.

I have to give Independence RV a big "thumbs up" for upgrades and removing the Diamond Shield coating.

This is excellent advice!

The RV dealer I work for sends the body work out to a body shop. CW might possibly do the same. Find out so you don't pay the body shop and CW.

At best, any transaction with Camping World is a **** shot. I think you should research auto body shops, truck body repair, and even boat repair facilities. A little effort on your part will yield a repair facility you are comfortable with. Camping World would be the last on any list for me.

I used Camping World in the Portland, Oregon area when I backed into my own car. Nothing major, just some scrapes and dents on the rear curb side. Camping World did a good job.
This does not mean I would use them for anything else. I've had bad experience with their mechanical service and would never again use them for that.

Mine is in a "truck and rv" shop in Elizabeth, NJ right now. The area around the front wheelwell ripped apart. I can let you know how they do. So far, the insurance estimate and getting into the shop have been no problem. Of course, getting out of the shop is the hard part. Let me know if you're interested.

Thank you for the interest. A bit too far for us though, We live in Manahawkin, just off LBI. Good luck with your rig.
