Carefree touchless awning

2002 monica winsor. The main awning (carefree touchless) the small gas shock (approx 10" total length) is broken as well as plastic mount for stroke end. Carefree says the part is no longer available and want me to upgrade to latest version. I can not see purchasing a new awning when a $20 part is broken. Somewhere out there is someone who has had the same problem and fixed it. Help
  • Funny (not really) how these companies get the factories and the individuals to buy their latest super sophisticated electronically controlled gizmos...only to "discontinue" the electronic gizmos just a few years later....SOONER than their estimates of when failures will start.
I've seen some of these "automatic" awnings torn to shreds when the "wind sensors" simply failed....or the awnings themselves refuse to open or (worse) close. Them damn buttons!
IMHO....stay with the manual models whenever possible. They last longer without failures and parts are still readily available (at least for my 2001 A&E 8500)and if the awning DOES rip apart....it's MY fault. Not some control board.

((Edited to say: There are quite a few RV junkyards (surplus) places that you can contact....google RV junkyards (or similar) and a bunch will show up. G'luck! ))
  • Can you post a picture of the broken part and where it is supposed to not be broken or where it mounts?

I always get a chuckle out of these people... companies... "Oh, that is discontinued but for ten grand and your first born we can sell you a brand new unit that will break in about five years when we discontinue that as well!"
