Our CB use goes like this. We're stuck in traffic and wife says, "what the hell". She then says, " I wonder what the back up is" She then says, "I wonder how far this is backed up" I say, "turn on the CB and find out. With in minutes we know if we should use and alternative route. We wouldn't travel 95 without one.

I've still got the 35 year old Teaberry and a newer one from CW that hides under a seat or wherever, but no installed.
We run the Teaberry sometimes but cut it off because of static. And that is when we need it we'll be approaching a wreck or something and no exit or turn a around.
When there is traffic on it around cities mostly it is dirty trash talking semi Drivers etc. so we cut it off again.
The factory antenna is integrated with the radio antenna and doesn't have a whole lot of range.
May if the timing is right a non ground plane antenna installed. I don't like the idea of more homes in the Mh though.
Can't trust all these Truck CB shops. i stopped to talk about installing one a time or two at different ones and they had Kids who didn't know anything except bolt on on a mirror, knew nothing of ground planes and no ground planes etc.

My position:
Options are good. When you run out of options.. "Friendsd we are gathered today to remember our dear departed friend ____(Your name here)______.

So I carry a Cell Phone
I carry multiple CBs (I normally monitor both 13 and 19, Can monitor 2 more if I wish at the same time)

I have a Kenwood Dual Band Ham rig (2mtr/440) And a Baofeng hend held dual band

I have a TS-2000 and quite a bit of wire for antenning.

Odd I caN not yell for help somewhere (Marine service net if nowhere else) approach zero percent.
Home was where I park it. but alas the.

I use it for traffic and road info. Some caravans require one.

I have on the motorcycle and one in the RV. It's just another tool that I like to have when I need it. I don't run it all the time, but it's worth it's weight in gold when you're stuck in traffic and out of cellular range.

I just yanked mine out of the rock crawler and the motorhome. We have a group of a dozen or so rigs. Not everyone travels together, but we meet up someplace as a group. We just all installed 50 watt race radios instead of CB's. I was skeptical as to the range, but on a recent trip, they impressed the hell out of me. We were about 25 miles from the basecamp talking amongst ourselves when someone from basecamp joined our conversation! We had a rig that was broken down on the trail and we were able to communicate with basecamp to get food and supplies sent up to us.

This does no good for weather updates or to be able to talk with other people who do not have a race radio. But, they sure work 100 times better than CB's if you want to communicate amongst your own group.

In Idaho when you get off the main drag you will see signs that say heavy truck traffic CB channel ?. Good to have on the narrow roads especially for logging trucks.

I use one all the time when pulling the 5er, depending upon where you are in the country depends how many people use it. In the Kentucky area a lot of truckers use it down in Florida not so many, they are good when traffic problems arise.

I have mine on whenever the vehicle is moving. I can't remember the last time I heard "much profanity". Its not like the old days.
