change out old tv in back bedroom with new flat screen

i have a class a motorhome with a old time box tv in the back bed room that went out. i purchased a new flat screen but im not sure how to mount it. is there some type of special that i need to buy or could i rig it. any ideas on how should i do it? thanks for reading

The bedroom TV is where Winnebago would have put the tube TV but we didn't order one so it had two cabinet doors that I mostly used to store my parts bins. But I really didn't want to lose that storage space.

I repurposed the hinges, using the mounting holes for two of them and adding a third for extra stability. I then reused the two cabinet door catches to keep the door closed, so far never had a problem. I also ordered some vinyl wood looking contact paper to blend in better to the Maple cabinets. The bubbles are driving me nuts, but in the RV they are barely noticeable I may remove the paper and try again since I have more then enough left over.

I just mounted it straight through the board as I wanted to keep it as flush as possible so I don't hit it when I walk buy.

If you expect to watch it from the bed, then it does need to be tipped a bit for better view. When selecting a tv, be sure and view it from a low angle to see if it is visible OK. We had one that could only be viewed from straight on. Had to replace it with the one in the pictures.

I just ran across this thread. I am in the same boat. Taking out old TV's... Great ideas.

I would suggest slightly tipping the mount you make so the top is out further than the bottom. This will line up the screen more to your eyes when sitting. I've found some flat screens don't show the picture the best if they're up high pointed straight out towards your head when you're standing up. Then when you sit down, the picture looks off sometimes.

We attached a solid plank of wood within the cabinet that cannot be seen and attached a swivel tv mount to it. With a full articulating arm it can be readily viewed anywhere in the galley or main living area, or simply lay flush with the cabinet face.

BTW, the nest size up in width would have been too tall to put in the space I had, but may think about it soon.

I gave some thought to making a door with hinges as suggested, but as the TV was wider than the opening, hinging it would have created other problems. It could have been done with a hinged panel the width of the TV, but it would have stuck out a bit more, and besides, I was lazy that day Si I just took the simple and stupid way. It is a very solid mounting, and it is not moved for travel. If I do want to store anything behind,(which I do), it is simple to loosen two locking screws and lift it off.

If there was an area in which the old TV set into, make or have a door made to match the rest of the caibinets, Mount it with s piano hinge and mount the flat TV on the outside of the new door. You get a TV mounted and additional storage at the same time.

I did exactly the same thing, mounted a larger flat screen over the hole where the small tube type was. Give me a few, and I will post the pictures showing how it was done. .
