Chassis battery going dead while generator on
Hi all:
We have an 05 Mandalay 40E Diesel. We don't use it much and so mostly it sits in my barn, plugged in. The past two times I have taken it to a football weekend, where you have the generator on for a couple of days, we have not been able to start the RV when going to leave.
The first time I had to call and get it jumped and this last time, I turned everything off in the unit, and did the battery boost and was fortunate that after a few tries, it turned over. I had a feeling it was going to be problematic and checked the engine at midnight after our party and once I got it started we decided to just keep it running and drive home (10 hours ugh). Anyway, what are we doing wrong here? This time also, when I got home, I noticed that there was a very strong sulfur smell and a humming in the battery bank when plugged in. Like burning. I unplugged the unit, disconnected the chassis and let it sit. The coach batteries are fairly new but it seems like they may be toast. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.
