Class A versus Class C Motorhome

Hi Everyone

Well, my hubby & I are seriously thinking about going into a motorhome as setup/teardown with our 5er is taking longer and longer to do.

We have spent days (me, weeks) on the internet researching and also going to dealerships looking at units.

Then I realized I should be asking the experts!!!!

Want to downsize to 30' and probably gas. (Sure wish they'd put our GMC Duramax in these units)

Anyways, we'd sure appreciate everyones opinions, bouquets & beefs!

I prefer the space in the Class A, Our is 101 inches wide with slides in, We have a huge kitchen which my DW loves, I also love driving the A, Tried out a super C and disliked the drivers area, Just like driving a truck but with this huge house behind you, little windshield. With that said, We all have our preferences, We started out looking at C's and A's and quickly realized that the Class A was more of what we wanted.

We now are the proud owners of a Class A Winnebago Itasca!!!
Also, a new car since the one we had was "not towable".

Glad we're enjoying spending our kids inheritance...LOL

Thanks for returning and letting us know the outcome. Wish more folks would do that.

You'll get lots of enjoyment with your new Class A!!

Hey, good for you! congrats. So, it looks like I am a day late and a dollar short in giving you my advice. I was going to say, if you winter camp, get something that has a little insulation and double pane windows. Also, Don't just look at floor plans, get as big an engine as you can. that horse power is important when towing up in the mountains. Then, have fun, lot of fun. run the wheels off that thing. Life is short, so make every second count.

Best of luck to you with your new rig.

I think that is all psychological, you still have 8 or 8 1/2 feet wide box behind you. this could possibly cause you to be over confident.

Research all you want, but don't get paralysis by analysis. I have 3 RV's. A KZ travel trailer, Class A bounder, and Class C Toyota pictured below.

The Class A is bigger and great for trips. It can also handle a toad. So can most class C RV's. (albeit my Class C Toyota is smaller and can't). The MAIN advantage of a Class A over a C is that the views are way better while driving, you are higher up, and it can tow more.

The advantage of a Class C is they are way easier to drive. It feels like a pickup.

The advantage to a TT is that you get a tow vehicle in town. If you tow a toad with an A or C, it is just about the same setup to unhitch the toad. However, with an A or C, you do have an extra vehicle if you have mechanical trouble.

It's circular and all have and advantage in some way or another.
4 whopping cylinders on Toyota RV's. Talk about great getting good MPG. Also I have a very light foot on the pedal. I followed some MPG advice on Livingpress.com and I now get 22 MPG! Not bad for a home on wheels.

One more question...

Should we "bite the bullet" and go new since most gas A's have gone with the 6 speed tranny?

In our research we've learned that it will be a lot quieter ride.

I love driving the house!

When we do go to upgrade in a few years, I'll definetly check-out everything from B's to A's though!
I'm especially interested in the Super C's!

Excuse me for asking, but, isn't a "Super C" like riding in a bigger truck with a bigger house in the back?

Certainly might be ๐Ÿ™‚
But I will definitely check them out.
Love the look of them. Great towing capacity. Owners seem to love how they drive. Love the up front engine. Overall just very cool IMHO.

This was important to us also! I wouldn't even consider a rig where you couldn't get to the bathroom or bedroom (wherever) with the slide/s in.

Just moved from a 30 ft class C to a 31ft class A, the A has about three ft more room in side. The driver and passenger seats swivel and become part of the living area. The A is easier to drive, and shorter turn radius.

I've owned both and a Class A steers better when turning and you sit higher allowing you to see better.

Whatever you choose make sure you can swivel the driver and passenger seats to the living area to make more use of them if you have guests over or just want a more comfortable place to sit instead of a sofa or dinette.

Also, when looking test that you can easily move from the seats to the rear without having to exit the RV and use the door to get into the RV.

Good luck with your choice.

One thing we did when we were shopping, we figured out our budget and just did a search for that price range. We were really surprised by what came up, models we had not even considered. It's how we found our 32ft DP. The other important thing is to drive every one that you can. Also, see what it looks like with the slide outs in and out. While you're sitting in the prospective RV, think about things you normally do and how that would work (cooking, washing dishes, watching tv......). Good luck!
