Class B insurance

We had the same issue with State Farm on our first class B. They didn't know what a PleasureWay was. So then we went with Progressive who had MUCH better coverage than State Farm on an RV. We didn't stay with Progressive when we traded our PleasureWay, (in 2009), as they were too high.
Just yesterday got a quote from SF again on our new Winnebago ERA. They knew what this one is, it was in their computers. The quote for the same coverage line by line was just short of double what we've had the last 3 years with our current RV insurer. Allied Insurance RV. Got a quote from Progressive also and they were $175.00 higher than Allied. These were quotes for 1 yr. coverage.
We do have State Farm on our cars and are very happy with them on auto coverage.

State Farm did not have issues finding my RV when I initially insured it about 2 years ago. To answer Wrasle Castle's question about coverage, I have $500,000 liability coverage, uninsured and underinsured coverage, no fault coverage and full collision and comprehensive including roadside assistance and towing. I don't recall my deductible for collision, but I think it is $1,000.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but coincidentally I was just about to post about RV insurance. I have been unpleasantly surprised at the high insurance costs. I have a 99 Leisure Travel class B with an insured value of $17,000. My current insurance premium with State farm is $734 (full year of coverage). I got another quote from an independent agent and it was $515.00 for identical coverage. I understand that there are many factors that impact premiums, but this kind of disparity for the same coverage seems pretty large. I would like to know what kinds of experiences others have had with insurance. Like Bobojay5, I have otherwise been satisfied with State Farm, but I am having trouble justifying paying this much more for identical coverage.

A lot of times, they can find it with the VIN, so let them search for it that way, and they should be able to estimate the policy premiums from that. If they can't find it, try somewhere else.....there are at least a half dozen national Insurance companies that advertise that they cover RVs.

Good Sam/GMAC RV insurance. You will usually get a better rate from a company that specializes in RV's.

Just a cautionary note.

If you "insure" your "B" based solely on the VIN - and don't read the policy carefully, but rather are "impressed" by the rate quote - you may find that your "coverage" is for a bare van only.

Many - maybe most - carriers have RV specific policies.

It pays to read, and understand, one's RV policy.

I have been very happy with coverage from the Hartford thru AARP. Costs a fraction of what I was paying Allstate.

Excellent advice. My B van has two VIN one from Chevrolet and one from Airstream

I had the same problem at our insurance agents, in Canada, with our used Roadtrek, they wanted to insure it as a bare van through the VIN number.

I tried to explain that it was a bit more expensive than a bare van, they responded that they were not interested in what had been done in finishing the interior of the the van!

I managed to get one of the staff to get a quote from Aviva or Progressive who seemed to know what a Roadtrek was! Aviva came back with an acceptable quote and I have been with them for several years.

I've had good luck with Forest River's insurance company (well, the insurance co owned by the same people as FR), GEICO. They seem to have decent ERS as well.

My RT is insured thru Foremost which is a subsidiary of Farmers. Through the years they have kept rates low for me.
