Counter replacements, granite light?

I'm renovating an older Class A (1998 Southwind 35S) and I want to replace the corian counter top and crappy old tables. I love a granite, marble or onyx look, but can't take the weight of stone in my gas RV.

Has anyone tried any of the stone composite substitutes, like granite-light.com or http://www.stonepanelsusa.com/applications/recreational-vehicles/? Or do you know of others?

I'm curious about:

1. Cost relative to Corian;

2. Weight relative to Corian;

3. Durability relative to Corian.

Any wisdom out there? Thanks!

Sorry, did not see the links, just the questions. No experience with Granite-Lite.

This company has some RV experience evidently

Thanks. That's one of the companies I linked to in the initial post, but I don't know anything about their product. Have you used it?

There are many synthetic counter tops that look just like granite but are not. Check with a Home Depot or Lowes and you can get lots of info.

I have a 2003 Safari Cheetah DP by Monaco. After 45,000 miles no cracks etc. on the synthetic they use in the galley & the bathroom. You might want to call Monaco in Coburg, OR to find out what they use. Great stuff.

Whatever you get, just remember there is lots of bouncing around and movement in an RV. Something that has at least a little flex to it is probably necessary. I do know they put real granite in some higher end RV's, but does it ever crack? I don't know, but it seems like a possibility to me. I do know Corian does allow some flex.

I happened to watch an episode of Extreme RVs on the TV the other night. Super, multi-million dollar luxury coaches. The builder said they get their granite either 1/8" or 1/4" thick, applied to plywood and they do a bullnose on it. All the appearance of a thick piece but 20% of the weight.

Looked like a great idea!
Except I have no idea where to find a place that sells granite that thin. ๐Ÿ˜ž
